Bought Dried Fish At Bantayan Island

in Market Friday7 months ago

During our visit in Bantayan Island, one of our itineraries was their market. I was skeptical at first as it was a bit far from our current stay, yet we pursued and go with the flow. Bantayan Island is known for its impeccably beautiful ocean, exquisite spots, accommodating resorts, and most of all their delicacy, the dried fish or "buwad" in dialect. One who visited Bantayan would surely not missed to purchase the delicious and a "once tasted always wanted" dried fish.

From Jelly's Haven Resort, we went directly to their market as our second itinerary. Common means of transportation here were tricycle and jeep, so we rode through a jeep since were many. The busy street of Bantayan was busy as the city. People selling fruits, thrift clothes, and others.

In a dried fish section, vendors selling various kinds of dried fish. Some were packed into half or kilo and others were just on their bilao letting attract costumers to buy.

Dried Nocos/Squid

First stop to a certain stall, I bought half a kilo of this dried squid. The squids varied in sizes but the same color. It's chewy when it's not cooked well but I liked it when it's crispy. Letting it stayed in a cooking pan for 30 seconds (on a medium heat). This costs 260/kilo. Since bought half of it so it's 130 pesos or 2.31 USD.

Dried Bolinaw/Dilis

It comes to two faces, the first one was cut into half and the other one is as a whole. But my bet is the first one. I bought half of it too. It's already good enough since it's light weight. I bought this for 120 pesos or 2.13 USD.

Boneless Danggit

Among all dried fishes, boneless danggit is the best seller. When we talk about Bantayan Island, we think of its boneless danggit here. They produced such kind of dried fish way better than others which makes them a signature delicacy of Bantayan. Boneless Danggit costs 280 pesos or 4.97 USD per kilo. Resellers would sell them ranges to 300 to 380 pesos depending on the location of the costumers since they need to ship them.

They also sell fermented tiny fish, innards of fish especially in danggit and flesh of clams in a bottle. Filipinos are delighted to buy those as an appetizer. I truly agree with this, even a sole viand can suffice our meal.

At Chillstop,we bought for lunch too. We have to take a sit first since people were queuing for food. They sell siomai, noddles, fried chicken and others. They offer cold drinks too.

We then bought the best buy, iced coffee 🥰🥹. I ordered iced coffee (vanilla flavor) while they ordered a matcha flavor without coffee since they don't like coffee on it. A refreshing cold treat on a humid afternoon.

That's it for our Market Friday everyone. Have a great day🥰.

What a busy street, but this is the perfect place to shop for ingredients. that dried squid and dilis, we just had that last week. But the bigger version namsn, it is so makunat, hirap sina mother kainin. Pero sakin naman ayos lang kasi malutong, di lang ata kaya ng pustiso nila, charrr haha. But I just noticed, grabing lilinis ng mga dried goods dyan. Seems like all of them is new.

I drooled when I saw those different kinds of dried fish! The perfect combination for tomatoes or vinegar with onions ugh! Dried squid yum! 🤤

It's trueee miss. I wasn't able to document such a recipe for dried fish. With this viand, more rice will be slayed. Hehe

Tradisional markets have quite a lot of choices for shopping, the packaging is quite good. Thank you, greetings.

Thanks for this @hsidik. Yes lot choices indeed🥰
