RE: Make Your Own Seafood Rice Bowl At This Market In Aomori

in Market Friday3 years ago

I love it!!! That seafood looks amazing but I never get scallops raw. I prefer them lightly seared, and it is exactly the reason you pointed out. They are too chewy. Helpful hint: Bay scallops are smaller and sweeter, whereas sea scallops are larger by three times and chewy. I think you might have got sea scallops. It is one of my favorite seafood, although I like the tiny scallops that are caught in shallow water.

By the way, I have never seen a place like this, so huge!!! And look at the menu they have! Everything!!! I hope you got enough to eat! LOL You are like me... I could eat all day long. Ok... maybe half a day!

How did you ever find this place and do you think the prices were reasonable? Would you go back again?

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to any type of market, or anywhere where you pay money for a service. It can be a museum, a movie theatre, or an auction. Be creative!

I learned something about scallops today! Thank you. This might be the sea scallops. I'll try to find tiny ones next time so I can compare.

How did you ever find this place and do you think the prices were reasonable? Would you go back again?

While I was traveling in Aomori, the northernmost prefecture of the main island in Japan, I was looking for places to go or where to eat on maps. I came across the term nokkedon and because it's near the hotel, just within walking distance, we tried going there. My friend went to the onsen place beside it the day before but he never thought of going inside this market. Well, it doesn't really look like a place for eating or even a market when viewed outside so it's acceptable he missed this place.

I think the prices were reasonable. It takes skill and time and I don't know, lots of stuff. They were accommodating too.

I'd definitely go back next time I'll be in Aomori. Their food is really delicious and this market is too unique.

Yes! The larger sea scallops have a different texture when they are grilled or fried. They taste wonderful. Not so much raw.

Supercool that it is a market, but, a discreet one. I am glad you discovered another amazing place to take us! Thank you!
