RE: Walking through Spice Souk and Gold Souk in Dubai

in Market Friday2 years ago

The souks are an absolute must, but, I think you are right about that particular one. It does seem like a tourist one, that is the largest percentage of people that are wandering about. It doesn't matter though. Just look at those spices being offered up! What a colorful display to look at and photograph. Which spice did you buy? I couldn't resist. There is just something addictive to perusing the spice markets.

I can go back again and again... ditto the gold... or especially the gold. The gold dresses! Even though I would think it has to be uncomfortable to wear, you still want to look at them, yes? I might even want to try one on. I think I could do it. Wear one, I mean. :) That is just crazy, by the way.

You really nailed photographing the souks. I think it is a little difficult with all the people, one on top of the other, but, to be honest, the shots look great too. There are sometimes too many people! (Lies! there are always too many people~) But, isn't that half the fun? Navigating it?

Your pictures are colorful, well-framed, interesting, well composed... they were really terrific. Thank you for sharing these and the story of your visit!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can benefit a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Hello @dswigle, thank you for your compliment and comment, I really appreciate it!

When we got to the spice souk I was really a bit confused at first, I didn't know whether to look with my own eyes or through the lens 😮 There was plenty of time, so we stayed here for a while. The spices on offer were really very varied, and to be honest, I didn't know many of them. We bought some whole dried lemons, curry mixtures, tea mixtures and some menthol crystals. I still have to figure out how I'm going to use the lemons 😀

I was surprised by the gold dresses as well, it was the first time I'd seen that too. Lots of people were looking at the windows, and there was hardly anyone in the shop at the time of my visit. Maybe they are a bit uncomfortable to wear, but who cares, they are made of gold 🤑🤣

I agree about the photography, there are always too many people and cables inside the lens. And as you wrote, that's the charm, the fun and the challenge. You know, being in the right place at the right time with the camera turn on in your hand 📷

Until next time!

Whole dried lemons are usually used (whole) in soups and stews. I have used them on fish and they say you can use them on vegetables.

Experiment and have fun with it! :)

Thanks again for joining #MarketFriday!

Thank you for the hint, I'll try for sure!
