Making it Merry for Market Friday

in Market Friday3 years ago (edited)

May I hear the voices of angels and follow the weary shepherds – the refuse, the forgotten, the cast-asides – and go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, and see it again as if for the very first time, if only in my dreams. Waiting is the hardest part, but it can be the best part too.

Merry Christmas - Almost. Glitter me done!

Unwrap your day with holiday magic. Embrace all that is shiny and bright with the day and share it with others around you. May that feeling of Christmas last forever, not for just one day, for loving, sharing, giving – and not to be put away like ornaments, lights in some box on a shelf.

Joy to the World. Every ornament represents the stories of our lives. Each time we decorate the tree, lives are relived, people are remembered; one of the ways our traditions are born. I have spent much of the last few days in the company of friends and family, so I am running a little behind here. Again. I remember saying this exact thing not even a month ago. Life. Love. Laughter. There just cannot be enough of it. Ever.

Ribbon and berries, holly and glitter, things that make my holiday shine. Oh, the joy! There are so many reasons to love this time of year, or any other part for that matter.

I carry your heart with me, wherever I go.❤️ I carry your love with me, whenever I do. Give your love as generously as is possible.

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!)It's Christmas in some places in the world, so I wasn't sure if I would get any posts submitted today, but, I wanted to take a moment to wish my #MarketFriday people Merry Christmas! I thank you for keeping the journey alive and I wanted to dedicate this post to all of you. ❤️

The final Christmas Countdown is 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 10 seconds!!

It just wouldn't be Christmas without my mothers' recipe for the much-despised cake. It has been described to me like this: Fruitcake tastes like a mix of dried fruit and alcohol, with an elegant hit of spice. Ready to take their turn in the oven and be ready in about six to eight weeks. This is called Operation Fruit Cake, Part ll. I already have about a dozen being delivered to people across the States, eager to get theirs. I know, you nonfruitcakers don't understand that kind of love, but, it is very real. We love it and we look forward to Christmas, mostly for the fruitcakes. No lie. Wait! That was a joke! They will be ready in a little over an hour, then sprinkled generously with brandy. One for me, one for them. One for me. One for them. It will be an early night for me. I might be scheduling this post.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

Merry Christmas to all! Wishing you the special gifts of this holiday season - Peace, Joy and Lasting Happiness. May your burdens be light and your blessings abundant. Twinkle radiantly!!

’Twas the Night Before Christmas

…And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow…

Yeah, it is good to continue in love after Christmas. Some people would stop loving or sharing what they have after Christmas which is not fair.

Thank you @dswigle for sharing this with us. Merry Christmas in arias and a prosperous new year.

Thank you so much for your wonderful wishes!

#MarketFriday loves you!

It's early Christmas Eve as I type this !

Oh...so wonderful, the joy of family, laughter and celebration of the birth of Jesus.

I can't believe it is here already. I'm trying to slow it down to enjoy every single second.

Homemade fruitcake ?! Now there is a list I would like to be on. Can you make one more??? Please, please pleeeeeeaaase.....

When I was a child I would not have touched a fruitcake with a 10 foot pole ! I'm older now though and I love them. Some years my Mom would make a a homemade batch, but I even like the bought Claxtons (the original version). Last year I bought one from Walmart, I ordered it to be delivered with some other groceries. Once here I found it was 12 ounces instead of 16?? No wonder the price seemed lower than the other years and then... ON NO THEY DIDN'T !!!, ALMONDS? ???.... ???... replacing some of the pecans ?? Not as chocked full of fruit?? Blasphemy ! They ruined it ! Fortunately though, when bought somewhere else (anywhere else) the size, price and recipe was still the orignal. whew Disaster avoided. LOL !

I know you are going to be having such fun, because I am too !

Merry Christmas Sista !

I cannot believe that my time is here! Where did it all go? I have been having such a good time and now Poof! It is almost gone!

Do you like fruit cake? You and the old guy, a match made in fruitcake heaven. It is his favorite. Do you want to be on the list? I make them by the dozens. This year I had to buy substandard fruit. Not my normal one and I haven't gotten a taste yet, the first batch that went out, they all said it was good. :) I loved it, even as a kid. I swear WalMart has stuff made up special for them and it is always subpar. I mean it. That fruitcake thing proves my point. Did they put almonds in it? Why? Because it is cheaper! That confounds me!

We cannot help but to have fun! Today was cookie day! And ambrosia and oreo cookie dessert and fudge, and cookies! Lots and lots of cookies!

Oh, my! I will be rolling around the neighborhood soon!

Merry Christmas, Sista! Soul Sista! Soul Sista!

#MarketFriday loves you!

Of course I want to be on the list. I mean, you don't have enough to do yet ! LOL Can't believe you give them away and haven't tasted one yet. What kind of cook does that ??? Funny girl !

Well... you know, almonds are the new peanut. ha ha ... don't you like how everybody does that?? Thing is, because it is so plentiful and cheap, that is what is happening and not only with Walmart fruitcake. You know, before I added to my grocery list (that one and only time!) I noticed it was cheaper and just thought Walmart was putting on a deal. I didn't notice it was 4 ounces smaller, so when it got here, before I tasted it, I thought that must be why. Then when I opened it, I saw something weird... what ?... what is that?... and of all things, there in it's compacted little self was slivered almonds. Still had a few pecans, but less than normal. As you can imagine, the flavor was not the same either. You can't change something and keep it the same quality like the industries like to pretend they are doing. Whodathunkit ?

They are not the first though, I rarely eat cereal as an adult, but some years back, something my brother said caused me to try Banana Nut Crunch cereal and I thought it was delish. Nice flakes, big pieces of english walnuts and big granola clusters. Even though I loved it, I probably didn't buy it more than once a year. Everything was good for a while and then one year I bought it and... something wasn't the same, it didn't taste as good and ... let me look a little closer. Nuts are there, but barely any english walnuts, but almonds..... almonds??... What tha??? More almonds than anything and the once nice fat crunchy granola clusters are small. They took a perfect, popular product and ruined it. I also noticed at some point that mixed nuts, even deluxe mixed nuts had loads more almonds now, so I guess the industries think we won't notice. I know almonds are good for you, for real.....

Ok... time for coffee and making a pile to go to Moms. Hope you're having a good day.

Oh yeah we are in cookie land this morning. I crawled into bed at 4 a.m. and got up way too early. I forgot that you're having afternoon with your mom. I hope you have a good time and give her a million hugs for me. This is going to be a hard year for her. I'm sure that you will make it merry. Just don't give her some of that klaxton faux fruit cake! I have noticed the predominance of almonds and everything that I eat that has nuts in it. That is crazy because almonds do not equal black walnuts or English walnuts or macadamia nuts or anything for that matter. They're freaking almonds! I like almonds occasionally on their own and slivered almonds in a recipe that calls for it. But I don't feel crazy over it. It has almost turned me against them.

I didn't taste the finished product Oh, but I did taste the batter. The finished product usually melds their flavor for six or seven weeks. It doesn't taste the same as when it's first done so it wouldn't make a difference. Besides that, I wasn't eating sugar at all then. Imagine that no sugar? It's true.

Alexa is singing in Gloria from the background and all things from Christmas choirs. It's a beautiful day out today with the sun shining and milder temperatures then it has been in the last 2 days. My sister called this morning, video chatting to show me just how much snow she got today. Snow! How perfect is that? Christmas Eve and it's snowing. Some people have all the luck. I want to thank you my little elf friend , Soul Sister for being here always. I hope you have a nice day and they very very Merry Christmas. Love to you! 💖

Loving, sharing, giving, caring is last throughout the entire/whole year in a loving family.

I give you some !PIZZA and some !LUV.

Merry Christmas to everyone. Have a nice day. All the best.
Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Brandied homemade fruit cakes, now that is something we do enjoy with ice cream, not hot like you may enjoy with custard or cream on top. Love tradition to send out cheer hope all the deliveries were made on time this year!

Always cheerful and delightful, a time of giving this morning we left some parcels out on the road above the house. My husband said he is sure they were waiting to see what the surprise would be today. Yes food and clothing in a country bereft with poverty, nothing should ever go to waste.

Something from South Africa to bring additional cheer.

Hey @dswigle, here is a little bit of BEER from @pixresteemer for you. Enjoy it!

I've never liked fruit cake but I don't know if I've ever had it homemade before. I'm sure that makes a huge difference. Most things taste better when they are homemade. I guess I'm a non-fruitcaker.

What are the green jelly things in it supposed to be? Lol

Christmas Eve is rapidly flying by and before too many nibbles of food and a ching ching with a cool glass of wine it will be time for bed to let Santa tiptoe in quietly leaving a gift for each of us as we sleep. Oh the magic of Christmas fantasy.

Here is my link and I am so very slow doing the right thing sweet Denise, my apologies.
Have a very happy Christmas Eve tomorrow 💚

New Note.jpeg

You know, I have never had fruitcake before. I am guessing I wouldn't entirely hate it, but then again you hear all the bad stuff about it... :) We had Christmas with my family yesterday because my sister was in town so we are just about halfway done with the holidays now. I hope you get a chance to really savor the next couple of days. Merry Christmas!

Lovely as always! Marry Christmas. All good wishes to you and your family!

Compliment of the season @dswigle , it's Finally Christmas Eve after some much wait Christmas is tomorrow.

here is my post for this week https://peakd.com/hive-194913/@tattoodjay/market-friday-seasons-greetings

Wish you and yours a very merry Christmas

Great, fun and colorful article dear @dswigle.
Count down start for the Big day. Merry Christmas dear. Wish your dream comes true.

Christmas is on the way!!!! A very merry Christmas to you my dear friend! :):)

Merry Christmas.. Christmas looks so fun around you. I actually ate a fruit cake from my consultant yesterday as he was giving us our end of year last meeting.

I love the video too.. It made reading more fun...

Ahh, the much maligned fruitcake! I think most people that don't care for it (as I was once one of them) just never had a "good" fruitcake. Collins Street Bakery has a pretty good fruitcake and the only other fruitcake that I had and loved was made by my first mother-in-law (God rest her soul). She was awesome, her son not so much. She also made them at least three weeks in advance. I made them with her one year. I sure do miss her and our wonderful times together. I would totally give your fruitcake a try though .. I will send you my address straight away. 😉
Anyway, great post as always Denise! Wishing you a beautiful and Blessed Christmas!! 💕

Where have all you fruitcake lovers been hiding? There was Nary a person that would touch a fruitcake a couple years ago! I will tell you that I just love them and I have always eaten them because my mother made them and her mother before that and her mother before that. Fruitcakes of always been part of our life. When I just read that back it sounded a little bit but that act like we don't have anything but fruit cake in our life but you know what I mean! I would gladly send you a fruitcake just put your address in this box.

There's no accounting for the sons of wonderful women. Seems like the nicer they are oh, well I won't go there in the spirit of Christmas. I want to thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your words and wishing you a very very Merry Christmas. Can you believe that it feels like spring is in the air?

#MARKETFRIDAY LOVES YOU!!

You're very welcome! I'm a bit of a snob I guess as just any "run-of-the-mill" fruitcake won't due..lol. I bet yours is delicious though and I bet it smells "heavenly" in your house while they are baking in the oven!! 😉😋
Yes, it seems that way but as you said "in the spirit of Christmas" we will leave that one alone. I will take this kind of Winter weather any time. Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas also!! 💞

Haha! You are not quite the snob that I am! I have never found a bakery or anywhere in fact that can beat my mother's fruit cake, and of course I mean that in the nicest way. I have never been tempted to keep trying them I have tried a few and been sorely disappointed so oh, I do what any red-blooded American would do. I make my own. Of course if I was really a red-blooded American I would just buy it at some Gucci store and call it macaroni! Love to you my friend and Merry Merry Christmas!

Taken in the nicest way too! Lol..you got me ROTFL over here with that macaroni comment! Take care and have a lovely Holiday!! 😊

I dont know how they made them back in the old days, but they were strong. I think that is what puts off a lot of people. They have a bad memory of a overly strong fruitcake from their youth.
Oh yeah and the rum ball cookies. OMG!!!
