A Lively Marketplace Alongside of the Highway: Buying Foods and Basic Needs at Damolog Outdoor Market

Hello Hive! What’s up? How are you feeling right now? I am hoping that everyone is doing well. Today, August 23, 2024, which is Friday, my nieces and I went to Damolog Marketplace to buy our foods such as fruits, vegetables, rice, and basic needs. It is located at Damolog, Sogod, Cebu, Philippines.

It is a 40 minute to 1 hour ride from home. We ride a bus going to the market at around 9 o’clock in the morning after eating our breakfast, and we arrived almost 10 o’clock.

I decided to buy our food in Damolog Marketplace because there are three bank machines in that area. I went to the downtown of my hometown first to withdraw my salary, but unfortunately, the only ATM machine in the town is not working. That is what made me decide to go to another town to withdraw my salary and buy our basic needs.

We went first to the area for fresh fruits and vegetables.

I bought 2 kilos of avocado, 1 and half kilo of grapes, 4 pieces of apples, 2 pieces of oranges, 1 piece of Durian and 2 pieces of Iceberg lettuce.

Durian

I have not tried to eat Durian that is why I bought it. I want to know the taste and smell of this fruit because I heard a lot from people that this fruit, Durian, smells unusual. I have not eaten the fruit yet. I think people who say negative things about this fruit are wrong. I smelled it. The smell is good. Maybe other people just don’t like the strong smell of this fruit.

Durian costs 130 pesos per kilo or 2.30 USD. I picked up the smallest one which is exactly 1 kilo.

Avocado

I was surprised and decided to buy 2 kilos of avocado because the price now is less than last month. It costs 70 pesos per kilo or 1.24 USD. Last month was 100 pesos or 1.77 USD.

Grapes

For the grapes, it cost 180 pesos or 3.19 USD. I bought 1 and a half kilo, and I pay 270 pesos or 4.78 USD.

Apples

The apples cost 15 pesos per piece or 0.27 USD, and I bought 4 pieces for my nieces. I just paid 60 pesos or 1.06 USD.

Orange

The orange cost 20 pesos per piece or 0.35 USD. I just bought 2 for my other niece and nephew, and I only paid 40 pesos or 0.71 USD.

Iceberg lettuce

The Iceberg lettuce is 40 pesos per piece or 0.71 USD, and I bought 2 and I pay 80 pesos or 1.42 USD.

After buying fruits and lettuce, we walked to the barbeque store. I bought 2 pieces of Liempo (a large pork ribs barbeque) at Noksman. Per piece cost 295 pesos or 5.23 USD. I paid 590 pesos or 10.45 USD. It was for our lunch when we arrived home. We will share and eat together.

Eating burgers at Angel's Burger

Then, we went to the burger shop. The name of the shop is Angel’s Burger. I bought burgers and soft drinks for my nieces. Two pieces each one of them because the burger is “Buy One Take One”. It only cost 40 pesos for two pieces or 0.71 USD. I let them eat snacks before going to the bakeshop and rice shop.

When my nieces finished their food, we walk together going to the bakeshop. I bought bread for everybody at home.

I bought 2 bags of rice.

Then, we went to the rice store. I bought 2 bags of rice. Each bag contains 5 kilos of rice. It costs 305 pesos or 5.40 USD. I paid 610 pesos or 10.81 USD for the 2 bags of rice which is 10 kilos of rice.

Dried fish

I also bought dried fish because I missed eating dried fish. The prices of the dried fish depend on the sizes and the type of fish. The dried fish that I bought costs 320 pesos per kilo or 5.67 USD. I only bought ¼ dried fish that cost 80 pesos or 1.42 USD.

After buying dried fish, we walk going to the grocery store to buy other groceries. The name of the grocery store is Prince Warehouse. I bought powdered milk, fresh milk, biscuits, slice bread, peanut butter, shampoo, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, and more. Most of the stuff that I bought are the basic needs in the house.

I bought a hair clip for my little niece.

I also bought hair clip for my other niece.

I bought a demonstration clock for my son.

I also bought stuff for my nieces. I let them choose, but with a limited amount because if I do not put limit, I will be out of budget. I just limit 200 pesos each or 3.54 USD, the 3 of them.

My other niece bought cologne and facial care that cost exactly 200 pesos or 3.54 USD. However, my other two nieces exceed the limit amount.

After paying the groceries, we went home. We finished buying groceries around 12:30 in the afternoon. We wait for the bus going home for almost 1 hour. Around 1:30, there was still no bus going home. Luckily, there is a tricycle going to my hometown, Tabogon. The driver is the high school classmate of my brother. I didn’t waste time, and we ride the tricycle. The fare is 300 pesos or 5.32 USD.

I keep looking at the sky and the towering clouds while waiting for a transportation.

If we ride the bus, I will only pay 90 pesos or 1.59 USD, but there is no bus going home at that time.

Liempo (a pork ribs barbeque)

When we arrived home around 2 o’clock in the afternoon. We share and eat the two large pork ribs barbeque together.

I started to transfer the groceries to the cabinet from the box.

inbound1090601265628277305.jpg
I put the groceries in our little hanging cabinet.

I put the fresh milk inside the refrigerator.

After eating, I wash the fruits and put the groceries in our little kitchen cabinet.

That would be my hectic yet terrific Market Friday. Thank you for taking time to read my blog. Take care and have a nice day.

Wow! Looks like a great store. Durian - you'll have to let us know how it is! Avocados are cheap! Where do they come from? Are they imported?

I didn't eat yet the Durian @apanamamama 😊 I will give an update after the first bite 😊

I think the Avocado is not imported from other country or Island that's why it is cheaper and affordable 😊
