For my son's birthday on Wednesday, he wanted to try a new ice cream place that's down the mountain from us. Typical flavors here in Panama are galleta (cookie), vanilla, chocolate, cherry, strawberry, Neapolitan, and rum raisin. There aren't too many options, so this place looked temping with at least 30 flavors to choose from!
This guy was happy to wait on our family of 8, even though it took us forever to figure out what everyone wanted. Previously I've tried dulce de leche (caramel), coco (coconut), and menta chic (mint and chocolate chip). On this day, I tried maracuya (passion fruit), and my now tried and true favorite, dulce de leche.
I was quite surprised to see cerveza (beer) was an option as well as Bailys, but none of us tried either of those. Ha! A few of my kids said Skimo pie (Eskimo pie) was really good.
Most of the flavors are pretty mild, like most flavors here in Panama. The coconut and mint I had the other day, pretty much tasted the same. The kids had mint and chocolate chip and they liked it, but everyone commented that most of the flavors tasted like vanilla. Panamanians just don't like bold flavors it seems!
The passion fruit one I had was very much like sherbet and it had a good flavor. My daughter had mora (black/red berry) and she liked it although she licked it and it fell off, but she caught it! My husband tried coffee, and, even though it tasted like coffee, it was more of an icy consistency. He agreed that dulce de leche was the best.
All this fun experience of picking two flavors for 8 people cost us $1 per cone. I thought it was a great deal and great afternoon snack! I tried to convince my husband we also needed to stop and get a duro, but he said we could have one or the other. Ha! The birthday boy wanted ice cream, but I think next time I'll push for a duro from Don Joaquin:

Once I pick my favorite, it's hard for me to try something else. Ha! I'm not a beer drinker in general, so I'm definitely not going to pick it for ice cream. 😅 I have a favorite duro flavor (coco) and a guy today was telling me his favorite is (leche agria), but I just can't convince myself to try it... Maybe someday I'll have to buy both of them just in case the new flavor disappoints. 😉 Thanks for stopping by!
