Occasionally something comes along that feels right. You know that feeling: A homecoming after a long absence, a cup of hot chocolate on a cold, rainy day, slipping into a bed made with freshly washed sheets, the moment you realise the person you've been dating is the one. It's a beautiful feeling and, if a person is fortunate, they will experience it from time to time in life.
I remember feeling that way about Hive when I first found it not too long ago.
I found a place to share my experiences, travels and thoughts and a place where others did the same. I found a place where so many interesting people interacted, shared and enjoyed the company of others from all over the world. Hive felt like a place I could call home, a community of people all open to the others, happy and willing to understand that despite our differences we're all simply people with similar likes and dislikes, and different ones too.
Nothing is totally ideal though and I came to the understanding that some people were very unhappy about the downvote process. I think some people see it as censorship however I see it differently, basically as disagreement and you know what? Disagreement is ok.
In life people disagree, there's no need to engage private investigators, the FBI, lawyers, the leader of the local boy scout group, the NSA or the Pope to understand that. Disagreement is a human thing because not everybody will always like or not like the same things. Disagreements happen and if you think it's not the case you're deluding yourself, or just delusional.
It's ok though, we don't need to lose our minds over it and we certainly don't need to hate others for it, write or say slanderous things or generally compromise our state of mental wellbeing over it. Disagreement is part of life and it's worth accepting it rather than trying to fight it like a spoilt child with a rotten brain, heart and soul. I've seen this happen on Hive and it's ugly, especially when that non-acceptance blossoms into hate, derision and actions that could be seen as completely non-sensical.
It speaks poorly of a person's character that they would take such action and it only serves to destroy rather than build. Destroy what? I think a person's mental health for one, attitude, happiness, credibility and overall wellbeing on Hive and in their personal life also. It also only serves to destroy the community. Hive I mean.
Fortunately those that do such things are very few and far between on Hive and, luckily for us and Hive, they are heading over to Blurt where downvotes don't exist.
Here's the thing though...Nothing much does exist on Blurt.
It seems empty, like it has no soul. I'd imagine it's the type of place satan might like to reside, to linger, spreading putrid, fetid garbage, smelly farts, and that runny, dribbly shit that leaks down the legs when a person has a bad case of diarrhoea and shit standing up. It seems slimy, dirty, and not in a good way, but in a, should go to the doctor and find out what this puss oozing out of that sore on my sexual organ is, kind of way. Forgive my description, I just don't know how else to say it.
I guess, I'll just stick to the basics and spare you the stinky, brown, festering, pond scum reality of it. Basically, Blurt is shite.
Hive is awesome.
I hope you will forgive my poor command of the English language and writing ability. I try my best.

Hahah that’s one hell of a descriptive way to describe Blurt! I don’t use the platform myself but I know the downvote issue is certainly a heated topic on here.
Glad you’ve found your way back to hive, I know many leave and end up coming back.
Hello cmplxty, thanks for your reply, I am new and so any interaction, especially nice ones like yours, is welcome.
I've never been on Blurt and will never be. I researched it and, without trying it, decided it was...well, let me say it how it is, shit!
Here I am on Hive, spending some time looking around, getting familiar and trying to understand who to interact with and where to place my posts. I'll get better at it over time, I'm sure. I don't get the time to post much but will work at it.
Any suggestions would be welcome as I know it is very difficult to become established...or even seen.
You comment made me feel like this:
Hmm I don't know if I believe you that you are new. Your account name is too similar to this other one that trolls the hive chain. I’m not going to down vote you yet to give you the benefit of the doubt but the account that also responded to this here has been around for a while.
In any case, yes down votes are problematic in some situations but they are also helpful in others. There’s a lot of leeches out there, some with considerable stake in the platform but there’s also lots of others who don’t have much and just take everything they earn out of here. I dislike both situations. I’m not a foolish person when it comes to investing but I also don’t think constantly cashing out is a good idea.
That's so kind, but feel free to use your downvotes on my account anytime you wish good sir, it's your prerogative to do so.
I did an introduction blog today and will post some more as time permits and will post and interact as I see fit. Should downvotes come I'll accept them as the communities' (and your) right to disagree with something or other I've written.
Not everyone will get along with everyone else here or in the offline world and as long as I'm comfortable with my own actions on Hive, it's all in my post-feed for all to see, threats of downvotes mean little if anything at all. Thanks for your honesty and forewarning of possible impending downvotes though.
I'll be happy to eat my words if it turns out you are truly someone who is different than this other.
I don’t mean to threaten, but I think the account name wasn’t a good choice. If you want to differentiate yourself from the one I and others think of, I would recommend changing it to something that won’t cause confusion. You could also just continue on and make a better name for yourself and nobody else would really pay attention to the other one.
Had the other account not commented on this same post at all I would have been none-the-wiser and would have never mentioned it!
Go and get your knife and fork.
What an interesting concept.
This seems somewhat harsh and accusatory don't you think?
I'll be honest and say this wasn't the @cmplxty I know who usually welcomes new accounts warmly, especially accounts who are clearly pro-hive. I'm glad I didn't receive this message when I started back in 2017.
I guess I was unsure about the incredibly similar version of the name to this other account that’s on here that’s deriding hive. World-traveler-pro and world-traveler-pr0 are just too close for me to think they aren’t the same person. I am willing to be proven wrong that’s for sure! I just may be jaded of late.
Would I be equally suspicious if someone that came up with the name Galenjp? You betcha!
The writing style is different, not just the words, but the tone, mood and feel. It comes from a good place, or so it feels to me. Have you read the intro post they did? That says a lot.
Personally, I hope to see more from this user as it's well-written, funny and interesting. It is what Hive needs, about 100 million more users like this. I hope people get behind this account and others like it.
People will get treated commensurate to the way in which they present themselves, in the offline world, and hive.
Yeah I checked out their intro post afterwards and it seems hopeful. I'd love to eat some humble pie and take back what I said earlier! I'll keep an eye on them and see how it goes.
Don’t spam these comments please, thanks.
I understand your position but this type of comment doesn’t help your position. Seems more bot than human.
Blurt is another platform for sure but is it better than hive? I don’t really think so since you don’t have a check system.
