Travelling

You might mistake these first two pictures, as being my destination, but they are not. I did take them the morning of my travels, but from where I was working. I work up Wednesday morning, with a list of things to do, before we left for the airport. On top of that I had also had a job on, first thing. At first I regretted taking it on, but in the end I was glad of the money. But upon awakening, my head was full of the things I needed to do. I was beginning to feel overwhelmed. But instead of letting myself get swept away with that feeling, I delegated, some of the chores to my girls.

Which included, cleaning, organizing food for us, to take on the plane and food for the animals. As well as finding our travel adapters and making sure my youngest was ready. She is the wildest and is not a fan of making herself presentable. I also needed to check her bag, to make sure she didn't sneak anything in. I'm glad I did, as I found a rusty old tin. " It's in case I find any treasures", she told me.
After delegating I set off to work. It was only for three hours, but by the time I got back, I had only an hour to go before we would be picked up to go to the airport.

We had to leave really early, as our original lift was cancelled due to car problems and the only other option ( which I am very grateful for), was with a friend of mine, but she needed to be back home for a certain time. Which meant we had almost 5 hours in the airport. Which I find difficult myself, add in two teenagers and a wild child and well, I think you can get the picture. We were all well over it by the time we had to make our way to the gate, we would board from.

Airports are so expensive these days. It cost 6-7 euro for a sandwich. Luckily I planned ahead and brought food, fruit, nuts and some crackers. As we were travelling with Ryanair, the no frills airline, we had to be very careful of what we brought onto the plane. We were each allowed a small bag, which could be no more that 20cm depth and 40 high. The depth was the real issue really. Especially as we were travelling from a warm climate to a much colder one. So lots of layers and tying things round our waists. Which only added to the unpleasantness of our journey. Our bags had to fit under the seats in front which meant having absolutely no leg room.

We were however very happy to have two young boys seated in front of us, that kept us entertained and made the three hour flight, much more bearable. They were brothers, about 2 years and 3 years old and they spend most of the flight, trying to interact with me and my girls. Making them laugh, was a wonderful way to pass the time. It was a very long day, after setting off from our home at 2p.m and finally landing in Dublin airport just before midnight. We were all exhausted, but also relieved and excited to meet the newest member of our family.

I do love to travel, but not through airports. I find the energy there, too intense, so many people get super stressed and you can feel it in the air. Mix that in with excited and a touch of fear and well, I'd rather have my feet on the ground. But in saying that I am also really grateful that we could fly. All in all, it went quite smoothly and now I am back in the Emerald Isle, bathing in the cuteness of my little nephew.

All images are mine.

Sort:

I've got a new nephew too ( in The Netherlands ), since a month or 3. Went there a month and a half ago. There's another nephew coming up, from my twin sister, in a month and a half or so.

And yeah, I feel you when it comes to airports. Did you read about my travels with @clareartista ?
Car to Rome. (Car on) ferry to Barcelona. Drive to Portugal with a 3 day stop in Palamos, near Barcelona, where we visited my (work)holidaying brother and his girlfriend.

Clare and I arrived at my house on Monday.
It feels great but we are still landing.

Enjoy your time in your mother/fatherland 🤗💚

Ah that flight is never easy for you. Your wild child is hilarious. Did you tell her they have rusty tins in Ireland?😂

Yay to the nephew snuggles!

Airports are terrible. Reading this made me think of my own mum. I always saw the fun part of travel, but seldom considered how stressful it must get with little ones. Oh well, all worth it in the end. ❤️ have a wonderful time with your family!

I share your distaste for airports, and commercial airlines in general. I'm happy to hear that y'all arrived safely in Ireland, and that you're now with family. Enjoy it well, @trucklife-family! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Like yourself, I find the energy in airports oppressive. That might be down to the fact that (come what may) I tend to be the one that's sidelined for a search and enhanced pat down! lol Glad your flight was bearable - hope you have a great time catching up with your nephew and the rest of the family. x
