Season greetings!
No lies, we are made to understand that climate is not stable because it changes from time to time. For instance, there are years that experience unusual rainfall, while some years experience excessive heat like it has never happened over a long period of time. We have been seeing these changes, coping with them, and they appear normal to our understanding of unstable weather. But what we saw from last year into this new year has been on another extreme level. The climate did not just change; it feels like the world itself just changed, and it could be possible that the world is ending soon. Yes, it is very possible.
In Nigeria, a typical dry season with cold, windy weather arrives from November and lasts through to March of the following year. The weather is a big signature of the festive season; it is what gives it the unique vibe of the festive period. Yes, we usually have a very dry environment where the grass in the bush shrinks, and the windy weather we know as harmattan is always thick, which makes people wear sweaters. But that has been the opposite this year. There have been countless rainfalls, and not just rainfall but heavy rainfall, and that is very unusual for this period.

Is the world ending soon?
As funny as this may sound, this question has been what everyone is asking because, hey, we have not seen rain fall on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day before. No, no, no! We have not seen that. I will not lie, the continuous rainfall spoiled the unique environmental look that comes with the Christmas season. While the weather was supposed to look rough, as it always has been, it was looking very calm and cool, and everyone kept wondering if this was truly the Christmas season. Lol.
For the first time since I was born, this is the only Christmas we have had without harmattan. This is still shocking to us. Other times, the harmattan may take time to arrive, but it would definitely start giving its stubborn cold and windy blow on or before Christmas. But this year, Christmas and New Year have passed and there is nothing to show.
I am sure we are in for more surprises as the new year keeps unfolding.

Very interesting to hear about, as us foreigners always imagine Nigeria to be hot and dry. It's good to learn that you also receive a unique season for the holidays 🙏
Here in Canada we have typically experienced an accumulation of snow, but this year it is lacking. We barely had a white Christmas! 😭 Thank you for sharing, friend
Wow!
It seems the change affected everywhere.
I've been dreaming to have a feel of the snowy land. It always look like you guys are at the top of the world. Lol
