Y'all treat marriages barely as a social contract with no sense of responsibility, commitment or understanding towards it.

This is something no one is talking about and the earlier we realised and know how to handle this the better for us because this in many cases are destroyed families and marriages all in the name of not balancing things as they should be, and trust me when people say marriage is not for everyone it is true because in the journey of marriage there is hard work, there is understanding and there is what we call endurance, so if you don't have either of the them, it will be very hard to find a balance between your family issues combining with your marriage.
It will divide you apart at the end of the day and you might need up not having anything from either of the sides or both besides....

Couldn’t agree more with this! My wife and I know this first hand, as my mother has tried to destroy us and our marriage be being a conniving bitch. Thankfully I made the choice to go with my family now and focus my attention on that and cast aside the person that gave birth to me, as she was not about helping me and supporting me but ruining my life. That was a great lesson to learn and one that I didnt learn the hard way!

This must have been a very though decision to make. Something I wish things can be a little more different and we all find support in balancing our marriages with family.
Most times family can make things very difficult and it gets disappointing the most when it's coming from ones mother because it is expected that she should be in a situation of better understanding but if reverse is just as likely, then we should know what's best for our happiness!!!
