I know it isn't as popular because it is more mainstream, but I use Nord. It has a kill switch like that. I love it for when I am at conferences and away from home. That way I know I am safe if a connection happens automatically. It's a pretty cool feature. I get how it could be frustrating if you don't realize it though!
