It's been a slow week. Not having internet connection for half of the day makes it worse. But it's been a time to think and plan some posts. This isn't one of those. Something interesting happened today. You see there are some shoes I don't use anymore laying down in a basket in the cleaning room. Once I took them to check something and I have to place them back slowly where they were. The fact is, the was a pretty big spider in one of them. I'm not afraid of spiders, but I can't say the same about them and humans. Besides, I wouldn't like anyone picking up my house to do whatever with it.
This year, I've found spiders everywhere in the house. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm spending a lot of time in the house and altering their feeding behavior and all kind of things. But I always try to catch them in a jar and release them in either the back or front yards (not like my house has a lot of space anyways). I don't like killing them because they keep the flies and other pests at bay. But when peace is not an option, well, stomped they get.
However, I found it odd that a week after the shoe incident happened, I never saw that spider again. It is pretty big to be hidden at plain sight. I thought the lizards had eaten it. Or perhaps, it found another nook or cranny to hide during the day. In the morning, after I had finished jumping my rope, I was looking at a section of the ceiling and saw something moving. Under closer inspection, I found the spider having a snack. I told my mom who was picking the clothes that were drying under the sun. She saw the spider and then kept going. I know she doesn't like them and if she had the chance, she would've killed it.
I told her she should, this one is big enough that it was eating a pretty big cockroach. For me, that being deserves a medal. Like the lizards, it keeps the house clean. It might look frightening, but some of us do as well and you don't see people stomping everybody else. So, I went for my phone and took some pictures without getting too close to scare it off.
I dubbed my little spider Shelob. In honor of the big spider in Tolkien's works. It has its lair on the side of that beam. Later this day I saw a lizard approach this place and for a moment I thought there was going to be an epic turf war. But the lizard just went away and let the spider be. It is a relief. Both things are important to keep insects at bay, flies have been really annoying these months.
I was doing some research about Shelob and she might be from the Tegenaria species. These are common spiders that ca be found at home on a wall or the ceiling. I've only seen this one in action today. But I bet it has eaten a lot of bugs. Hopefully, it will eat even more. And that doesn't bother me at all.
Sweet Jesus that thing is giant! Lol. I wouldn’t be able to sleep with it in the room but I don’t mind hanging out with it during the day. At night is when all bets are off and the spider needs to leave lol. Don’t want Shelob crawling on me or my bed let me tell ya!
I don’t kill the spiders either unless they are making a move to walk on me. I catch them and put them outside if I can. Sometimes I just move them to a different area and hope that they are content at leaving me alone. The wife on the other hand will kill anything she sees in the house, even a ladybug lol. The little man and I actually saved a spider this morning. It was the first time I let a spider walk on my hand, it was an incredibly tiny one so I didn’t mind but I don’t plan to make it a regular habit lol. We dried some basil from the garden and I was picking the leaves and the little guy popped out to say hello. We let him go outside to keep eating the bugs!
I hear you on the posts. It’s tough, I have so many in draft right now and I’ve been able to get some scheduled but it’s a battle lol. Less sleep more hive posts!!
Ha, ha, ha, ha. Man! That lady is a serious buzzkill. What does a ladybug does to harm anyone? Geez!
Well, good thing these don't get too big. I think. Never seen this kind of spider go this big before. The smaller ones I find around the house I've carried of my had and put in better places where bugs are plentiful so they can have a lot to eat. Some in the garden do not move from the plants and fortunately, we don't cultivate anything. Not that we can because iguanas eat anything grown in the gardens. Keep saving spiders. They might save us!
About the posts, the problem is the internet connection. This month it has been working early and it goes MIA for half a day. It gives time for planning, but not so much for posting.
