I don't understand what's going on with the weather but it's gotten cold, all of a sudden. I mean, the weather app isn't showing any crazy low temperature reading but for some reason, it just feels cold.
It has been about a year and three days since we landed in the UK and so, it was around this time of the year we got in. I don't know the correct way to describe this weather but I simply call it "pre-winter".
It has been windy for a few days and inside the house now feels as cold as I remember it used to be when we just got here. I won't be able to get away with walking around topless, even though that's how I like to be.
I'm glad that I work from home, nowadays. I'll only have to go outside once a week and that's going to come in quite handy when Winter comes around. As we slowly get towards winter and the weather reminds me of how it was when we just landed, I'm also reminded of everything that we left behind in Nigeria.
Yesterday evening, my num sent me a voicenote on Whatsapp. It was a random voice note of her singing an ijaw Christian song and it hit me with a jolt of nostalgia.
Hearing her sing with nighttime crickets in the background really reminded me of all the times we use to sit outside in the dark and just talk about life. She's always positive and always encouraged me to be adventurous.
Early in the morning, the song was still in my head and I found myself dreaming about my parents. I never remember dreams but I know I was with both my parents and we were talking.
I woke up quite early in the morning and cried a little bit due to the insane levels of homesickness that I felt. I miss my country and the place I've called home for my entire life. It's far from perfect but it's all I've got.
I wish I could miss home like this because I am finding a way to leave my country and search for a better future, it is always good to hear from family and friends, I love the way that you remember home and your country
Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. How are your relocation plans going?
We make sacrifices to better ourselves and you will get back to a place where you will prefer to be in the future.
The weather when you are away from the equator is highly variable and that’s what I enjoy about it, you never know what’s going to come next.
