Won't they gain more pasture, better land from reforestation? Can't get worse than a literal desert. Strangely enough, I'm with Israelis on this one. Desertification is a serious issue and I'm happy they're finally tackling it. Chinese erased entire deserts and replaced them with woodland after decades of effort, so it's certainly doable.
