A Day With A Lineman #41 ~ Up In Flames

in WorkLife3 months ago

As of midnight that day, the local police were giving the ability to chase criminals again in their patrol cars. Well this jack wagon, after calling multiple times threatening “suicide by cop” decided to do a hit and run. The police were led on a high speed chase outside of town for about 10 or so miles. Attempting to take a turn at 90mph in a mini van was another piss poor decision he made that day. He smashed into a pole, flew off the road into the field and his vehicle caught fire.

As crazy as it seems, this nut job walked away from this incident. Well he was hauled of in an ambulance and tried fighting the medical personnel while he was in there. I guess even after the wreck he still had some fight left in him.

After doing a bit of scrambling around to de-energize this section of like we got to work. It was a bit confusing because we had just replaced about a mile long section of this circuit. They changed the way it normally fed so we looked a bit like those firefighting clowns at the circus.

Instead of have over 50 people and a bunch of irrigation pumps out of power, we only had one person without power while we made repairs. We were really short handed this weekend. Just 3 of us answered the phone.

I heard rumor that you can pick up cars really cheap at the local tow company’s shop

Poles like this one are pretty much a “slam dunk” for us. Having done hundreds of these car hit pole jobs in my 20+ year career as a Lineman. I failed getting progress pics because we were short handed and I was running the job. It works out that way sometimes.

We finished up just as the sun set.
Then another outage call came in…
oh great!!
Here we go again!!

Love the contrast of the burnt van and 35mph sign. Wonder how much insurance you gotta have for that.

If he somehow made the first turn... there was no way in hell he was making that second one. 🤣🤣

The cop said he had that mini van going 110mph. Dude was pushing it to the limit!

It’s so interesting to see that the only real difference in your signs is that you’ve over shot the correct letter by two.

The US overshot the letter by 2 but this dude overshot the speed by 55. 🤣

Ahh but in km/h that’s 88 over 😂

Never a dull moment. At least this knucklehead didn't take anyone out with him!

No kidding!! I travel this road basically daily. I couldn’t imagine going 100mph on the straights. Lots of ups and downs like a roller coaster and pretty narrow. Also lots of blind hills that if you aren’t hugging the shoulder you could kiss mirrors with someone. Pretty Wild!!

Good evening my brother
