The long awaited day is almost here, it's funny how fast the year ran, it was just like yesterday when we celebrated a year and here we are almost rounding up another year.
Christmas is a period of love, sacrifice and fun. I can see how radiant the faces of people are for the festivity and honestly I am glad to see people that way in spite of the difficulty of the year.
In almost every area you enter now, Christmas songs are the deal of the day. I don't know what are in those songs but there's something they do to the season that makes it special.
While growing up, Christmas songs were like water in a dry and weary land. We long to hear them as soon as a new year emerges because to us then the song is like Christmas itself and you know that Christmas comes with a lot of goodies, our parents buy clothes for us and the elderly gifts us money. It's like a money making period for us and we loved it.
Christmas songs were so dear to us. They was like a signal, if you hear it playing consistently then be rest assured you are in December, how sweet right?
Well, I have heard so many Christmas songs and most of them are amazing, they convey powerful messages to the world. However, my favorite among all is Mary's Boy Child/ Oh My Lord by Boney M. It was released on the 24th November, 1978.
While I was growing up, I used to think that the song was sung during my childhood because of how fresh and powerful it was until i carried out a research a few years ago. It's amazing how to date, the song still looks like it was released yesterday.
Why I prefer this very Christmas song above all others is because it's a song that talks about the birth and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
It tells the story in detail for everyone to Relate to. I see it as another easy way to tell people the story of Jesus Christ and what Christmas is all about.
As a parent, one can easily pass the message to his children by playing that song alone. Boney M and his crew really did a great job on that song.
Unlike other Christmas songs, this one is not just a song, it's a sermon in itself. It entertains and also passes across the good news to the world.
There are many Christmas songs in the world but only a few are like "Mary's Boy Child," I am not saying this because it's my favorite but you can bear me witness that some of the Christmas songs are completely secular only wishing people good and talking about being merry and having fun.
Well, that is not bad but Christmas is not all about having fun and being merry, there is a story behind it, and in the heart of God I believe he desires us to know that story and to also honor the price paid by Jesus Chris by surrendering our dear lives to him in obedience.
