The sunflower is really beautiful so far and I'm excited to see it bloom :)
Yes you got the idea, the leaves will overlap and block out light for undergrowth, by training the branches with clips, it opens the plant up for more even distribution that goes deeper down the branches. Ultimately this will cause more bud growth.
