Happy New Year 2020! I'm looking forward to another year of cannabis legalization, medicinal use realizations, and continued de-stigmatization.

The New Year brings cannabis legalization to Illinois. Illinois Gov. pardoned 11,017 people with low level cannabis on Tuesday, one day before recreational cannabis is legalized. Convictions including possession of 30 grams or less - victim less crimes that put people in jail, interrupted lives, prevented employment, and more - for something that should have never been illegal in my opinion. Good news that the state is moving forward.

WGN visits a north side dispensary to see how the preparation for recreational cannabis legalization is progressing. ATMs in the area have been emptying of cash, the anticipation is building. Interestingly the tax rate is based on the amount of THC in the product.

Celebrities were busy cashing in on the cannabis industry in 2019. Lil Wayne a new brand GKUA ultra premium flower,vapes, etc, available in California dispensaries. Jay-Z is the chief brand strategist for California based Caliva. Seth Rogan formed company Housebrand after Pineapple Express movie with Evan Goldberg in partnership with Canopy Growth company, currently only available in Canada. Drake partnered with Canopy for his More Life Growth Company that grows and operates out of Toronto. Martha Stewart joined Canopy as an advisor for CBD based products for people and pets. Other celebrities getting into the cannabis business include Bella Thorne, Chelsea Handler, Jimmy Buffet, Rob Gronkowski (former football player), and Jerry Garcia's estate.
Cannabis legalization and medical use is on the rise, I'm hoping the trend continues - do you work in the cannabis industry or trying to get into it ?
