It really surprised me and of course many of us who follow Katy, especially because this “deluxe” is not just a version with a couple of remixes. I say this because it brings us three new songs. If you don't know them, here are their names: “I Woke Up”, “No More Tears for New Year's”, and, watch out for this, a solo version of “Gimme Gimme”. This last one, in its original version, we had heard it with 21 Savage. Let's see, the rapper gave it an interesting touch, but it seems that Perry decided to release it without him to see how it worked on her own with the song or to give it a new perspective.

In fact another interesting thing is that Katy herself shared in her networks the first 20 seconds of “I Woke Up”, and she did it from Australia, which made me think, what is it about Australia that is always involved in these musical surprises? It must be because of the schedule, they're always a day ahead and it seems like they live in the future, or something like that. But well, the thing is that Perry was on tour there and decided to release the new version. Don't mind me about Australia, it's just a really bad joke haha.

Now, going back to what we already knew about “143”, this deluxe edition brings the collaborations that were in the standard version, that is to say, there are the tracks with 21 Savage, Doechii, and Kim Petras, which, honestly, were not short. Personally, I really liked “I'm His, He's Mine”, the one he did with Doechii. And of course, for die-hard fans, this song and “Gimme Gimme” were among the most popular. Although the solo version of the latter... I don't know if it was so necessary. I place myself in a somewhat neutral opinion with it.

From this release I found it funny how Katy always manages to keep the attention of her fans, I think with this release she more than proved it. It's as if every time she feels that interest is waning a little, wham, a deluxe edition. I guess all great artists do something similar. It's like lighting a little bit of a flame that was dying out.

I mentioned at the beginning something about the title, for those of you who didn't understand I'll tell you a little more about it. I don't know if you are from that time, but in the days when text messages had a character limit, we had to use some tricks to be able to take advantage of or express what we wanted to say in the limit of letters. So “143” is a code that was used for that. I think that kind of thing gives a special touch to the album. I repeat that “143” means “I love you” (yes, you already knew that, I know), and it seems that Katy wanted to connect with us through that idea.

I think it's a nice way to give a nod to those who have followed her for years, as if to say, “hey, I love you guys too”. But sometimes I wonder if these nineties references still work with the new generations. If they are from after the 2000's they probably didn't even know about these codes haha.
