Chasing lightning - nature's fury

I’m overjoyed to finally hold my camera in my hands again. The stormy weather has arrived, and with it, the lightning I’ve been eagerly waiting to capture. The last few days were unbelievably hot, making this storm feel like a dramatic end to the intense heatwave.

As the storm rolled in, the sky lit up with flashes of lightning. The thunder was so loud it felt like it was shaking the house. Our dog was just as excited as my husband and I. She seemed eager to join in the action, almost like she wanted to take photos too. Despite the booming thunder, she kept wanting to go outside. The wind was unbelievable, making it feel like we were in the middle of a tornado. We could hear trees breaking, and I saw some falling down, something you don’t see so often.

Our neighbor lost her entire garden and all her flowers to the storm. My balcony was a complete disaster. The storm was both amazing and scary. We lost electricity for almost an hour, which added to the eerie feeling of the night. But I still managed to get some good photos.

The next day, the weather was almost the same, but there was no sign of lightning as the storm had moved on. It was a relief, but I couldn’t help but miss the excitement of the night before. The storm left behind a mix of destruction and beauty. Three days of unbelievable heat followed by nights with amazing storms—this summer is turning out to be crazy! I’m excited to see what else it will bring. Finally, my vacation has started, so I have time to relax and wait for the next storm to catch. This summer promises to be full of surprises, and I’m ready for whatever comes next.

What amazing photos of the lightning. They terrify me, it's a strange feeling because I'm afraid of them and at the same time they fascinate me, they are so beautiful.
Great captures.

Thank you :) I was never a big fan of thunder, but my husband made it his hobby, and when we started chasing storms and seeing what the camera could capture, I was hooked. The only thing I don't like is driving when you're chasing a big storm. I need to be calm and focused on the road, but when you see a big cell approaching and he is beside me, screaming, go left, go right, it's just like, I want to see, not drive. :) But he is a great navigator, so I'm the one responsible for driving. I'm just glad this time we were at home, because I don't know what would have happened outside. It was like the end of the world.

Wow that sounds like a very exciting hobby.

As dangerous as it is, on the other hand, it's definitely exciting. You just have to be really careful how you drive when chasing a storm. You always have to drive to the side of the cell and never towards it. My husband has already learned this the hard way when lightning struck next to him because he didn't notice that another storm was also approaching from the other side. But it's a great hobby for the two of us :)

Do you get a lot of storms where you live? I would be afraid to be so close to one.

We're used to storms around here. Usually, it's just very hot during the day, but storms often show up in the evening. Lately, things have been tense. Last time, there were severe floods nearby, and behind our house, even trees collapsed. There's always something happening, but we're used to it by now. Is nice to see lightning, especially when the storm is very close :)

You really captured the lightning well. I was amazed at how positive you and your husband were while you experienced the thunder and the lightning.😊

Thank you so much. Oh, believe me, this time I was also scared, not of the lightning, but of the wind. It was unbelievably loud, and seeing trees crack and fall was just, wow.

True. The strong winds are dangerous when there are many things around. Keep safe. Have a great day.😊😊

Thank you ;) I wish you a nice day too ;)

Last two years feel like Nature's little name is crazy indeed. It was such a huge storm we were able to see the lighting almost 200km away in another country, both of times Windy app confirmed it was hell letting loose above your city.

Thankfully you two are alright, your balcony garden can still recover or be replaced with new ones

The past few weeks have been really crazy with storms. There are serious flooding problems in Austria right now. I'm glad I live on a hill because Mura, which is 500 meters away, has risen so much that it was terrifying. I feel really bad for my medicinal plant that didn't survive the storm. And she was already so beautiful :(

You can still cook it, hopefully wasn't thrown into garbage already :)

I still hope she will get enough sun and water to come back to life. I can't throw it away :)
