One of Iceland's famous tourist attractions is obviously this place. It's literally a hot spot. And with reason. I visited the geothermal area of Geysir in January 2021 in the midst of lockdown. There were no tourists at all and I had the place for myself.
It is an amazing sight seeing the hot water and gas erupting from a hole in the ground all of the sudden. It's also hard to predict when the next eruption comes. The cycle is somewhere between 4 and 8 minutes.
The whole places smells like rotten eggs due to all the gases that are released from many little cracks an holes in the ground, most of them are boiling hot.
And although this place normally is super busy with people I don't think they hang around long. I think most of them watch the eruption a few times, take some photo's and go back to the car. There is not so much else to see and to be honest I don't think the pictures end up in the top10 of most visitors. Maybe also because it's so crowded there that most pictures have a lot of people in the frame. But also in general, photography wise it is not the most interesting site to visit, but experience wise it definitely is.
I spent an hour walking around and tried different angles and experimented a bit with the colors of the setting sun. The last picture and cover image of this post is my final result. I figured the foreground tells something about the place in general and has nice colors. The background with the eruption and setting sun balance the color in the foreground and tells you exactly where this image is shot.
Thanks for reading, hopefully see you around in my next Iceland post.
Cheers,
Thijs
@thijsvermeer a little challenging in this beautiful landscape. Thank you for sharing here.
Thanks for reading! I enjoyed it a lot there. 👍
@thijsvermeer still enjoy it even though it's a little challenging,
Stunning!
Thanks a lot!😀🙏
Must appreciate your efforts in spending an hour in a place that smells like rotten eggs. I would have run away within a few minutes. Well done!
Haha, thanks! Eventually it was something I got used to. I was able to avoid some of it by holding my breath while crossing. 😅
And you got some good results in the end. That's the satisfaction.
Thank you very much!😀🙏
My pleasure.
Stunning shots.
Thanks a lot!😀🙏
