Sublime and Beautiful Sunday the Brant Geese have arrived

This post is for #SublimeSunday is inspired by @c0ff33a and #BeautifulSunday is initiated by @ace108.

We had a couple of warmer days, admitedly it did rain quiet a bit on those warmer days, butone afternoon the rain took a break and I popped out for a walk, I headed to Fort Tabor Park, and noticed there were a lot of Geese in the water by the beach, and they happenned to be Brant Geese

Now I am no expert on birds in fact in a recent post I confused between seagulls and pigeons which type had dive bombed me and cut my head LOL

BUt solely due to the fact that a fellow photographer from New Bedford who I have meet a couple of times when out for walks, shares on Farcebook his photos and he recently shared some shots of the Brant Geese, so I Noticed these looked a bit different fromthe normal canadian Geese we have here, and did a little google research and found out these are indeed Brant Geese

how dfo yout ell the difference you may wonder, well I did wonder and here is how

Someone who is neither birder nor waterfowler might mistake the brant for Canada geese, since they share the same basic colors. Upon closer observation, differences in plumage will be obvious. The Canada's white cheek patch is re- placed on the brant by a ring of small white bars circling the neck

you can see the ring around the neck clearly in this next shot

NOw a lot of birds may migrate away from here over winter but it sees the Brant Geese like it here, I am not sure if they stay for the full winter or were just passing through

I hope this post isnt boring with all the shots of the same type of geese, but it was cool to get out for a walk, to see so many of them on the water by the beach and to learn about the difference in the types

I would not have known the difference, if not for you sharing.

Cheers to a brighter 2025

Nice photos 👍 I enjoyed it. Don't think I knew about these type of geese. I googled a bit as a result of your post.

I didnt know about them till recently either

Excellent post. It made me laugh when he said he confused seagulls with pigeons. That usually happens to me, since it has happened to me on occasions, since I am not that knowledgeable about some animals. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Good day.

Photographed from a bird's eye view it is fine, I myself can only zoom up to 300 mm. But 400 mm looks very good in terms of sharpness. To be honest, I don't know all the birds either and usually laugh when I mix them up. Very nice photos and many thanks for showing them.

Thanks, i do love the 50-400 lens its not to heavy so easy to take out with me, I do have a 200-600 but its a bit of a beast so only take it out when I am going somehere specifically to get shots of birds

Wow, I don't think Nikon has anything like that. But I know what you mean. I always have 3 objects with me in my photo backpack and you can feel the weight.

Im the same mostly when out i have three lens, often for me its a 17-28 28-75 and the 50-400, but then at times depending on where I am going i may take one out and add one of my other lens

👏👏👏👏👏

Nice shots! Very interesting I didn't know the difference either. What kind of bird cut your head?

That was in Queens NY and was a pigeon, took a good gash out of my forehead, funny thing was it was about five minutes after one had pooped on my cap, I had my cap off and was bitching about it while my wife and stepson were laughing at it, literally a second later one dive bombed me lOL

What a vicious pigeon! They had it out for you that day! lol
