Winter has arrived. Snow on the mountains. Ice on the lake.

Just a few weeks ago the lake was open.

Then the storms came in. The temperature dropped. The ice creeped out from the shore.

And then the overcast days. Gray and white above. White on the lake.

After the storm. The blue skies come back. This is predawn light. Just a little sunlight on the top of the mountain.

Light is so different in the winter. Sky lights up but lake is still in shadows.

Other days the clouds never clear. The sun never comes. Lake stay white.

The blue days are still here but very different in the winter.
All these photos are taken at Lake Dunmore in Addison County, Vermont. Most are in the morning light.

What a beautifully serene winter scene you've painted. Those few precise words somehow capture the entire hushed, majestic feeling of the season. It makes me imagine the absolute quiet of snow settling on the peaks and the perfect, glassy stillness of the frozen lake. There's a sense of peaceful isolation and pristine beauty in this image. It’s amazing how such a minimal description can evoke such a strong feeling of calm and quiet wonder. Winter truly has its own unique and powerful magic. Thank you for sharing this lovely moment.
Thank You
Thanks. My minimal style may fit the moment but I like your more descriptive, emotional prose as well.
When I looked at the photo, I didn't realize it was a lake at first. The fog cloud has decorated it beautifully.
You've done a great job, congratulations.
The disappearing lake trick 😉 It does look like a field of snow this time of year. By the end of the year, it may be frozen enough to go out on the ice.

Beautiful! It is bitterly cold here today with a high of 7° expected and an overnight low of minus 7. But then they are predicting a bit of much warmer weather during the week with even highs near 40 °. It will be nice to have some of this snow melt away.
The river is frozen over and the geese and a few eagles are congregating in the mouth of my creek at the open water. The warmer water coming from the spring keeps it from freezing.
We are a little warmer. The front you are getting hasn't got here yet. We have gotten a little snow this year and it just hasn't warmed up. Its been a couple of weeks below freezing. Not bitter cold but no warm up periods. I always take pictures at the south end of the lake that is shallow and freezes over quickly. The north end is open. Lots of geese and ducks. And we have seen an eagle a few times in the last week or so.
Thanks. I remember you have a special spot on the river with the spring. Our eagles move on eventually.
