Ravanica is a monastery located in central Serbia, near the town of Cuprije. It was built in the Middle Ages, in the period when the Serbian state was on the rise and when Serbian rulers built numerous churches and monasteries throughout the country.
The construction of the Ravanica monastery began in the second half of the 14th century, during the reign of Prince Lazar. He was one of the most important Serbian rulers in the Middle Ages, known for his courage and ability to unite the Serbian lands. Prince Lazar was a great patron of art and culture, so it is not surprising that he wanted to build a monastery that would be an example of Serbian architecture and art.

Ravanica was built in the style of the Moravian school, which was dominant in Serbian architecture in the 14th and 15th centuries. This style is characterized by high walls, domes and rich decoration. The monastery was built of hewn stone and brick, and its interior is decorated with frescoes made in the same style.
