A Late Summer Walk

in Photography Lovers4 years ago

Temperatures are coming down around my area and autumn is already sending the first signals of its immanent arrival. For me, the best time in the year to be outside and immerse in nature. And so I did a couple of days ago, exploring the countryside within an easy day trip distance.

A lonely cow under a richly laden apple tree prompted me to get my camera ready. After a long time of iPhone photography I once again enjoyed the weight and substance of my EOS 7D. It's just the real thing.

IMG_7021.jpg

Apparently she was wasn't keen on the apples but rather on the leafs. Or was it the bark of the young shoots she was after?

IMG_7026.jpg

Enough of the delicacies. Time to lose some milk.

IMG_7027.jpg

An insects paradise. And beautiful to look at too.

A bee takes a sunflower bath.

Autumnal decor.

A wine village along the way. A stork's nest on the church tower perfects the countryside idyll.

Just a few more weeks until harvest-time.

IMG_7085.jpg

Winemakers of the region expect a good vintage this year. The biggest challenge, however, will be to get enough seasonal workers for the harvest.

Into the woods.

A mighty oak whose age is estimated at over 300 years, as an info panel tells. Unfortunately, it died only recently after a beetle infestation and had to be trimmed accordingly.

Can anyone figure out what kind of insect this is? @faltermann maybe? It had roughly the size of a hornisse. Even louder while flying. The armour was all black with a slight metallic blue sheen. The guy flew away right after this first shot, so that I could not catch any more details.

I hope you enjoyed this photographic excursion into late summer nature. Thanks for watching and see you next time!

This is a great series of pictures you show us here. The insect is the blue wood bee (Xylocopa violacea).

Thank you! I expected it to be an easy catch for you:) With your info, I found out that it's considered an endangered species around my region. Fits with the fact that it was indeed my first encounter with this bee. Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you very much @shaka for this excursion. The cow set the tone. A beautiful animal, carrying on, indifferent to you and your camera. All of it you captured, a moment frozen in time by the camera lens. And yet, signs of autumn are all around. We know the scene will change very quickly. Like the cow moving on, or the insect flying away. Makes the scene more poignant.
A true photo essay.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting @agmoore. These are the days when the end of summer suddenly becomes apparent. Two more weeks and the yellow and red tones will dominate. I hope to make a few more trips during the next couple of weeks.

Beautiful collection of both landscape as well as close up shots. What part of Germany are they from? I love late summer too. It´s not so hot outside but still great conditions and enough day light for hikes and long walks :)

Thank you @phortun. I took these photos in the far southwest of Germany in the so-called Markgräflerland. One of Germany's main wine growing area, especially known for its Gutedel (Chasselas blanc).

Wow, I didn´t even know Germany has regions famous for wine growing :) Always learning here on Hive hehe :) Thank you.

I always wondered if I can get to know more about you @shaka .. Today I got the chance. So nice to see some great set of series of lively shots! May I know friend where do you live? :)

I did several of these photo walks in the past but haven't had the chance and time to go on tour lately. Now I have a couple of weeks off and plan to be outside as much as possible. These photos were taken in the south of Germany.

Goats, cows, and deer all seem to enjoy the juicy sap of apple trees. It is common for them to chew on the bark, wood, and leaves.

I really enjoyed this set of photos. The cow reminds me Ferdinand the Bull, so happy in under the shade of the tree.

Interesting. Now that you mention it, I recall seeing goats chewing on apple tree branches before too.

As for Ferdinand, you may want to check my next post. I think I actually spotted him... :)

Beautiful countryside tour, thank you for bringing us along on your trip. The sunflowers are beautiful and vibrant, I love the stork nest on the church so iconic.

I first noticed the stork's nest during image editing, I have to admit. Otherwise I would have tried to capture it in more detail with my zoom lens.

Thanks for you comment!

I have done that also in editing I find that one thing that if I had seen it I could have optimized my photo's! Still yet you have it in the picture so nice, and the cow adorable eating the fruit off the tree.

A wonderful photo tour. Looking at your photos, I also wanted to walk through that countryside. The cow under the apple tree is a real fashion model. Photos of the autumn decor carried the smell of apples, flowers and forest. I think it's time to go for a walk. I have no doubt that you were pleased with your walk. Thanks for the cool photos.

Thanks for your nice comment. Glad that you could even catch a bit of the autumnal smell :)
