I actually have a neighbor that is a Coast Guard retired Admiral. He says "no ice is safe". I think that is the voice of experience 😅
Congrats to your friend for climbing the ranks and becoming an Admiral. I'd have to agree with your friend. I don't know any Admirals but I do know plenty of Captains of commercial fishing vessels. Ice is not their friend either as it can destroy gear that is designed to be left in the water. Mother nature is not to be messed with.
