Torreón de la Chorrera/Tower of La Chorrera.

El Torreón de la Chorrera es uno de los símbolos del Vedado habanero, se encuentra junto al Malecón. Se terminó de construir en mayo de 1646. Su objetivo era contribuir con la defensa de La Habana de corsarios y piratas junto con su primo hermano el Torreón de Cojimar. Su principal misión era evitar que barcos enemigos se abastecieran del agua del río Almendares.

The Torreón La Chorrera is one of the symbols of Havana’s Vedado, it is located next to the Malecón. Its construction was completed in May 1646. Its purpose was to contribute to the defense of the Havana from corsairs and pirates along with its cousin The Torreón of Cojimar. Its main mission was to prevent enemy ships from taking water from the Almendares River.

Los ingleses, durante la toma de La Habana causaron importantes daños a la estructura de este fuerte dejándolo prácticamente destruido. Este torreón como lo conocemos hoy, tomo esa forma después que fuera reconstruido una vez que España recuperó La Habana. Esta reconstrucción estuvo a cargo de Juan Bautista Antonelli. Dicen que originalmente el torreón era redondo.

The British, during the capture of Havana, caused significant damage to the structure of this fort, leaving it practically destroyed. This Tower, as we know it today, took that shape after it was rebuilt once Spain recovered Havana. This reconstruction was in charge of Juan Bautista Antonelli. It is said that the tower was originally round.

Aunque la mayor parte del ataque de los ingleses fue por el este de la ciudad, también invadieron por esta zona y una vez derrotado el torreón se ubicaron en la loma de Aróstegui hasta que finalmente se rindió la ciudad.

Although most of the English attack was from the east of the city, they also invaded this area and once the tower the defeated, they were located on the hill of Aróstegui until the city finally surrendered.
