Iceland - the worlds largest volcanic island.

According to an ancient manuscript called "Lamdmámabók", the settlement began in 874 AD making it the last place on earth to be settled by humans.
With over 60% of its 357.000 residents living in the capital city Reykjavíc and a population density of only 3.5 inhabitants per km², Iceland still has a lot of untouched nature with about 10% of its land covered by glaciers.
As an extraordanary eco-friendly country, Iceland is predominantly heating with geothermal energy and is using mostly renewable energy. This is making it look promising for the country´s landscape to keep its magic in the years to come.

Speaking of magic - a fair amount of people in Iceland believes in mystical creatures such as elves and trolls, tracing back to the Viking age.
Besides that, Iceland is one of the most developed countries in the world, ranking high in economic, democratic and social stability as well as ranking 3rd in median wealth per adult.
And all that even though they banned beer between 1915 until 1989!

Overall Iceland has tons to offer, ranging from its obviously magnificent nature over its succesful passion for sports such as handball, football and strongmen up to lots of interesting literature, due to the fact that almost 1 in 10 Icelanders publishes a book in his/her lifetime.

The following pictures have been shot by Mama Ponti in 2019. We picked the 4 pictures that we liked the most, but if you like to see some more from that trip, leave a comment and we will make another post with all those that didn´t make it this time.

This is not set to black and white. Due to its volcanic activity there are plenty of beaches with natural black sand and high cliffs.
