I remember when the construction of The Circle at the Zurich airport started. We were flying frequently at that time, and were annoyed with the traffic limitations that this construction was causing. We thought it would be a new shopping mall, but it turned out to be so much more. It took ages to build, and I believe it was finished a couple of years ago, but we only visited it last year for the first time.
It's a new district attached to the Zurich airport, and you can easily get there from the tram stop or even directly from the airport building. There are plenty of businesses, restaurants, bars, various shops and even a hotel. It's an open space that is covered with a glass roof, so it's a strange feeling of being inside and outside at the same time. There is a promenade along the circle with this impressive moon-like sculpture at the 'square'.
Let's explore it!
There is a cool tunnel connecting the airport with the circle. It's a great spot for pictures 😊 This was a rare occasion with no people in the frame as there is always somebody taking a selfie.
I was impressed with the sculpture and spent some time walking around, trying to figure out the name of the artwork, but I couldn't find it, so let's call it 'The moon'.
The tram stop is literally only a few meters away...
There is some artwork on the walls which makes it even more interesting. I would probably change the ceiling as it looks unfinished to me, but I guess it was done intentionally in this way.
Some Swiss landscapes...
And this is my favourite one...
There are many light artworks too...
It all looks modern and industrial...
We didn't plan to eat, but couldn't resist when we saw this Japanese place. Let's check how it looks inside.
We were greeted by a waitress who led us to a table next to the window. We were lucky to get a table as we didn't have any reservation. We loved the decoration hanging above us.
There was a movie about some Japanese traditions presented above the kitchen. I was lucky to sit in that direction, so watched the whole thing. Once it finished, it was replaced by a concert of a rock band - strange combination, right?
The glass cupboards made it look like there were hundreds of lanterns.
We started with a non-alcoholic cocktail. It was a combination of passion fruit with something a bit bitter. It was delicious.
We had a lot of food, but I only managed to take a photo of momos as I couldn't wait to start eating. We had some crispy sushi too which was the best sushi that I have ever tried.
And passion fruit ice cream pops. Incredibly difficult to eat because of the chocolate that was too hard, but delicious.
I'm not even going to try to remember the name of this dessert, but it was mango, chocolate and some cream. Yum!
From the Japanese restaurant we moved to a bar on the 8th floor! We hoped to get some nice views, but as we again didn't have a reservation we were seated in the middle of the room. It wasn't too bad at all, but we didn't get to see any views.
The cocktail on the right was supposed to be mine, but it was way too bitter, so my husband offered to take his which was much better.
The bar was super cool, and the lights were so pretty...
We were in the lounge section, but next to us was some sort of a bistro section which didn't look too shabby either.
Our flight was at 7 AM and we had to wake up early, so we didn't stay there long, but we already planned to come back with our friends.
It was so difficult to wake up on time, but there were not too many people at the airport, so we managed everything with no stress and arrived in Budapest right on time, but I will tell you about it next time.
Until then...
Cheers!
Bright, interesting photos! Cool!
Thank you! 😊
Incredible photos, especially to that big circle. I wonder how much is the measurement of that circle?
Honestly, I don't know how big it is, but it is big 😁
Thank you for stopping by!
You're always welcome.
Woah, those art walls conquered my heart! But frankly speaking, all these shops and activities so close to the airport are a must and should happen in more parts of the world. Nothing compares to dropping from a long flight and being I-don't-know how many km away from the city to eat something at a decent price and recharge your batteries, ugh.
Well, I would not say anything about a decent price as it's actually quite expensive there 😊 There is a buffet place too, but I wasn't there, so I don't know the prices...
Thank you for stopping by!
All the pictures are beautiful, i will love to visit. All the art work are beautiful. The big lesson i got from your story is that nothing good comes easy. It was not easy achieving this great snd beautiful work. It required much commitment.
Thank you 😊
V poslední době nestíhám ani Tipáky, ale třeba to ještě projde... Uvidíme, zkusíme :)

No vida, prošlo to :) Moc zajímavé místo mimochodem. Na curyšské letiště mám hezké vzpomínky, letěl jsem odtamtud poprvé do Ameriky :) To už je ale hodně dávno, to ještě ten Circle nebyl nikde ani na papíru :)
Tento koment som si teda vôbec nevšimla.. no mali by ste prísť znova..
