La Paz Waterfall is one of the most beautiful and easily accessible waterfalls in Costa Rica. It is located to the north of the province of Alajuela and an hour and a half from the capital San José.

The waterfall is located near the town of Vara Blanca in a beautiful valley between the Barva and Poás volcanoes. This site presents one of the most important water riches in the country and in the world. A large number of rivers and streams flow down its slopes. In addition, the broken terrain is ideal for the formation of large waterfalls such as the Angel and the La Paz waterfall.

The latter, however, is not a single fall, but rather is made up of up to seven waterfalls, one behind the other. The last one is the best known, since it can be accessed from the main road, without having to travel. This makes it a point of great tourist visitation, a mandatory stopping point for people heading to the Atlantic area of the country.

To observe the rest of the 6 waterfalls, you must walk the trails inside the mountain where you can find several viewpoints, perfect for taking photographs. The place also has an animal refuge, where you can see different felines and tropical birds.

In the past, the bridge that crossed the side of the waterfall was a beautiful wooden structure, but increased heavy truck traffic caused the structure to collapse in 2003 The bridge was raised again, however, in 2008 the area was hit by a major earthquake that caused landslides and again the loss of the bridge. For almost two years the area was practically closed to tourists.
