Hardegg

in Photography Lovers3 years ago (edited)

Hardegg is a castle on the Moravian-Austrian border. If you want to visit it, you have to drive to the South Moravian village of Čížov, leave your car there and walk along the 3.5 km asphalt road, reserved for pedestrians and cyclists only.
On the way, don't forget to turn to the "Hardegg lookout", which gives you a view of the entire valley of the Dyje with the town and the castle.

If you ride a bike, don't slip on the lizards. Especially the last stretch of the road is quite a steep descent.

Pokud pojedete na kole, neuklouzněte na ještěrce. Zvlášť poslední úsek cesty je docela prudké klesání.

The state border runs down the middle of the river Dyje. On the Czech (or Moravian) side is the customs building, built in 1937. The builders of that time left nothing to chance - the entrance balcony is actually a camouflaged bunker and the dark dots are loopholes. Two other small bunkers are nearby. During the mobilisation in 1938, the bridge was dismantled and from 25 September to 5 October 1938, the fighting was really fierce here. On the Austrian (resp. German) side there were supposedly 22 dead, on the Czech side only 4 wounded.

As I wrote above, the Austrian-Czech border runs through the middle of the river and as you can see, each country maintains and paints its half of the bridge. Austrian green has a different shade than Czech green.
