This is the little one that lost the use of her back feet.
We were so worried about her as she disappeared for many days, and you can see the previous post that I did HERE
For the first time in my life, I now have to search and purchase a squirrel trap. I hate traps, especially those that catch an animal on its leg, and it has to die a slow death. But in the squirrel's case, if I can get her in a trap then we can take her to a wildlife animal vet. Then again, I am not so sure that they will allow her to live, due to the extent of her injuries. In the meantime, it looks like she is coping with her disability. And so, maybe we should just let it be.
She was very hungry, as she posed here on her hind legs, and using the log for a support by leaning against it.
It looked almost like she folded her back feet in prayer.
She certainly enjoyed the food. Maybe she hadn't eaten in a while.
So sad to see how she walked along the log without the use of her feet.
Every now and then, she seemed to slip and fall over, but that didn't stop her from eating.
You can see that she cannot use her feet to grip.
But she is a beautiful little darling, and she will always be welcome here.
Amazingly, none of the other three little squirrels chased her or hassled her as they seemed to know that she is injured, and they avoided coming anywhere near her. They were not ostracizing her, as normally all the squirrels play after they have eaten, but none of them came to play with her. We also kept an eye on the other ones in case they disturbed her, but they didn't. So, she is safe and can feed at her leisure.
So now, for a while, we will have to play host and hostess, and make sure there is water for her to drink, and enough food when she comes. All that we can do at this stage of the game, and I think we should just leave it as is and let nature take its course. We are just glad that she is back and still alive, as we had given up on her that she would survive.
Such is life.

Poor little thing. They are doing well to keep going at all. I wonder if a vet could do much.
Yes agreed, and the advice was that we should keep an eye on her, as she looks healthy. Squirrels can also adapt to their injuries, and live normal life's. Should she deteriorate, then she would have to be put down.
So, let's wait and see.

Yes, a sad story. We are there for her and also for all the people and children that we work with at our charity. And we don't do it to expect blessings, as it is just unconditional love.
