The planet Venus made a rare appearance...

My camera was on full zoom, and this strange beauty was all that I could get.

It seemed to have a circle on its surface.

This occurred on 2025/01/03 and I have also included the day after, 2025/01/04.

Venus is located near the stars of the constellation Aquarius and is visible in the evening sky. It will be near the Moon on the 3rd of January.

Source

There is some interesting information about our starry sky and planets in the source link above. We googled the strange appearance, as at first we thought it was a star, and discovered that it was instead Venus.

See the little white dot below the moon? That was Venus, and I have never seen it so close to the moon.

Here below you can see Venus a bit more clearly. It was shining like a big bright star.

And this is what the moon looked like.

And now, let's see the night sky on the day after, 2025/1/4.

It seemed that Venus had changed position, as now it was at the left top of the moon.

I struggled a bit with the cloud and the wind was up, so I decided to take the photos with the zoom on 50%.

What we liked to see was the rest of the moon that is normally hidden from sight, as now it was exposed.

A curtain of cloud came down and covered the moon and Venus.

So, I waited until later in the night to show you the moon.

I am not an expert as far as the planets and their stars are concerned, as I struggle to remember names. The sun and moon are easy to remember, but when it comes to the things in the sky, like Sirius and Sagittarius et.al., I am totally lost. But I am hooked on the beauty that appears in the skies, by day and by night, and I am simply trying to show you the things that we saw.

The only way that a person would be able to get a clearer view of Venus, in my mind, would be at a planetarium as they have big telescopes. We plan to visit the local planetarium at some stage, and I hope to also do a post about our visit. Life is full of surprises, and we were delighted to discover Venus that was so close to the moon.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

I saw Venus when it was near the Moon. I was sure it was a planet as it was just too bright for a star. I used to have an app that would tell me what was in the sky. You get some nice pictures from your camera.

Glad that you also knew that it was planet, and I was very impressed when I read the story about the event. I have no apps and maybe must look at getting one. Thank you, and yes, it has a very strong zoom.
I also got a plane on the moon, but I was on a wrong camera setting and it was not a good shot.

Your camera is amazing! I love the shots you took!

Thank you, and it is one of the cheaper cameras with a fixed lens. When I want to zoom, the lens slides out like a telescope.
Glad that you love the shots.
