Now how is this for a catch?
Wow a KOB (Kabeljou) that this guy proudly carried at the beachfront. They are known as jewels by the fishermen.
We often see fishermen at the coast and today was no different, but we were in the right place at the right time to witness two events in public. The first was the Kob and the second was a Ray.
So come and have a look at this.
As usual we were out for a short stroll on the beach and it was a lovely sunny day.
This guy was proudly posing for a shot with a Ray that he caught.
But I don't know if some of the spectators were very impressed.
They seemed to pull their noses up a bit :)
His father taught him well, as the correct way to handle a Ray is to grab it by its lower jaw. It has no teeth.
Some Ray's like this one have no sting in their tails.
Time to take it back and set it free.
Done and the Ray took off like a rocket.
Nope, sorry guys, there was no food for you here.
Here is more details on the Kob,
Argyrosomus japonicus is a silvery to bronze-green colored fish, a member of the family Sciaenidae, which may grow up to 2 m (6 ft 7 in) in length. It is known as Japanese meagre (FAO), mulloway or jewfish on the east coast of Australia, butterfish in South Australia, kingfish or river kingfish in Western Australia, and dusky/squaretail kob, dusky salmon, salmon or kabeljou in South Africa, Ô-nibe (大鮸, オオニベ) in Japan. The name jewfish refers to its large otoliths, which are prized as "jewels" by some fishers.

Sorry for blanking the faces of the people in the photos, but I want to protect their identities. I think that the topics are more interesting and it was amazing to see this.
We have also seen some other interesting events here that I will show you in other posts.
Hope that you enjoyed this one.

the ray fish is not taken as food over there, that's why it was not captured right?
Yes and we call it "Catch and Release". If you catch anything that you don't eat, then you put it back into the sea.
Rays are so fun to catch! Not like a typical fish that can swim up down left and right because of the wings. A ten pound ray can feel like a hundred pound cat once/if it gets to the bottom and you're trying to pull it up!
Never caught a ray before and I have hung up my fishing gear a long time ago my friend.
My camera has now taken the place of a fishing rod.
But you are right as I saw how that young guy was battling to get the ray out.

Love this. I hope you don't mind, I'm going to "vyb check" this post (it's a layer of the VYB Curation Project and I can't miss the opportunity to manually run through the process on your post).
!vybcheck : COLOUR! The atmosphere of the sea-side is felt from the pictures alone. I really enjoyed the experience on the vyb front-end too, the blue flows beautifully.
I don't mind at all and you are welcome.
Cheers mate! I am still to get "VYB Checkers" in action, so I'll gracefully assume that role as well for the test process. 😀
All strength to your efforts mate and I hope that you will have great successes 🙏
Hi, @calumam I have prepared a bumper ocean post to place in #vyb but I cannot find the frontend to register ?
Can you please send me the link.
Zac.
Of course, the link is: https://www.vybrainium.com 😄
Thank you, in the meanwhile I found it and posted in #vyb.
Please go and check the post and tell me if you are happy with it.
On my way out now, but will be back in a while.
Content has been submitted to VYB Check.
A VYB Checker will arrive shortly to !approve or !deny the submission.
edit: Would it make sense to edit this comment after the !approve or !deny is made by the VYB Checker to show the result of the check? If someone doesn't want to read the critique by the VYB Checker after discovering the !approve/!deny and reason, they could collapse this comment prior to arrival.
This approach also reduces responses from @vyb.check eliminating unnecessary spam.

!approve : Opening the post had the same effect on me this morning at 4am. Instant sun, sea, sand atmosphere and feelings. Great supporting text alongside the images. Refreshing and enjoyable content.
(edit: talk about timing... 5 minutes after I posted this we got a VYB Check reply from @samsmith1971. I'd shared the submission comment in our testing Discord yesterday to see if anyone would "take the bait"!)
@samsmith1971: I have read the post, upvoted, and commented. I appreciate the effort he put into his post and with the pics and the variety of discussion, it did give a good overall sense of a relaxed day at the coast, so it was generally an enjoyable vyby post. The vyb could definitely be felt! Not a fan of fishing myself as I am vegan lols, and I am really pleased the little ray was returned to the ocean to live out its life. They are truly graceful creatures. But with respect to Vybcheck - !approve
Sorry mate, this looks like a very nice and decent comment and I thank you, but I don't know Spanish.

https://www.vybrainium.com/ there you go. I look forward to seeing more of your articles here 😊
Looks like you had an interesting day at the beach :-) I am really pleased that the ray was returned to the ocean to live out its life. I have dived with a number of different types of Rays over the years in Australia and South Africa and they are incredibly graceful and curious creatures. Truly gorgeous. I once dived in a oceanarium tank with rays too... one was so inquisitive it grabbed my arm by the end of the wetsuit...and didn't want to let go. I got such a fright that I accidentally bopped it on the nose. I felt so so bad afterward. I didn't hit it hard, it was more of a light reflex reaction to try to shake him off. As for the Kob... I'm vegan myself, so forgive me if I'm not so much of a fan of fishing, but I appreciate the effort you have put into your post and with the pics and the variety of discussion, it gave a good overall sense of a relaxed day at the coast. Thank you for sharing in the vyb community.
Oh again? Thank you for the compliment and one thing that I have never done is to dive.
I don't mean ordinary dives when swimming, as I love heights and went off many cliffs in my time, but I even struggle with these Covid masks as I have claustrophobia.
As a young child, my mother's boyfriend blew red pepper into our mouths and he locked me and my sister into one of those hallway broom cupboards for many hours. One couldn't sit in the cupboard as it was a flat cupboard and it was dark inside.
Now I don't have trouble with the dark of the night, but I cannot stand confined dark places. Never been underground either and I don't know why I am telling you all of this.
You really didn't mean to hurt the ray, as it was only a reflex action and I am sure that the ray would want you to forget about it.
Btw, we live exactly in the middle of the mountains and the sea. 6 kilometers either way, so I have both of my loves close by.
The thanks for sharing must really go to @calumam, as he asked me if he could test my post in the #vyb community. I only use the #vyb tag on my posts.

It sounds like you went through an awful period in your childhood. I am so sorry to hear this. Sending you big hugs. I completely understand your aversion to anything that brings back memories of those dark days for you. Thank you for sharing something so close to your heart. It sounds like you now live in the best place ever, between the two most restorative natural wonders of the world. My Mom always loved the ocean, as do my sister and brother. It is their happy place. I also love the ocean, but the mountains are my happy place 💗I look forward to reading more of your posts in the Vybrainium community. !PIZZA !ALIVE
Something that I once shared with another on here, but if you ask me who and what it it was about, I honestly cannot tell you. I have something like 40,000 or there about replies on my profile over the years and I can maybe remember the last 5 🤣
Oh yes thank you, we now live in the right place between the two, but it is very difficult for me to choose. But I don't have to as 5% of my posts are charity posts and 20% is ocean, the rest are all nature including mountains. So the results tell me that I also prefer the mountains.
I have done an ocean test post today in #vyb and have to wait to see the results.
Then I will do a mountain post test post and we will again compare.
May you and yours have a Merry Christmas.
