Volos is a port city in Thessaly, it has about 150,000 inhabitants and it is the capital of the regional unit of Magnesia. This city is the only exit to the sea from Thessaly, and its port is a bridge between Europe and Asia.
Volos is the newest of the Greek port cities, built at the deepest point of the Gulf of Pagaset and at the foot of Mount Pelion (the land of Centaurs). The municipality of Volos also includes the towns of Agria ( the birthplace of the famous musician Vangelis ) in the east and Nea Anhialos in the southwest.
It is the third commercial port of Greece in the Aegean Sea (after Piraeus and Thessaloniki), connected by ferry and hydrofoil to the nearby Sporades (Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos).
