One of Europe’s oldest open-air ethnographic museums, settled in the heart оf Bucharest, on the shores of Herăstrău lake. It reflects traditional Romanian village life and allows you to discover the country through different regions and time periods.
The village was a creation of Romanian sociologist Dimitrie Gusti and all necessary funds were provided by the Royal Cultural Foundation. The museum was opened on May 10, 1936.
The houses were disassembled, and transported by train, carriage or boat to Bucharest where they have been assembled again. The village museum contains 272 authentic peasant farms and houses from all over Romania. The oldest house was built in the 17th century.
Truly impressive, it seems that this place was frozen in time, it is really beautiful, both mysterious and incredibly wonderful.
