Crazy things happen when you take the lens off your camera!!!

Refraction 2.jpg
A wine glass, flashlight, and interchangeable lens camera (no lens required) are all you need to get some shots like this.

The key is to minimize the amount of light hitting the wine glass. To accomplish this you need to block out most of the flashlight only leaving a pinhole for the light to get through. Place the light as far away from the subject as you can. Of course, you will need a very dark room where the flashlight is the only light source.

The objective is to refract the light so it directly hits the sensor. The effects are very abstract and the possibilities of what you can capture are endless.

Playing around with different angles drastically changes the results.

This particular photo captured the light refracting off the streaks in the wine glass. The colors are all naturally occurring.

As always the whole point is to experiment and have fun. I hope you enjoyed this post and it inspires you to experiment with photography in new ways.

These are super cool and trippy! Thanks for sharing them with us. =)

Yes, it is always fun to experiment with new technics and see what comes out. I will definitely be revisiting this with some different subjects. Thank you.

That sounds cool! I like that you put as many images and shared some more text to go with it this time around. Keep up the great work. =)
