Today, I want to share 2 pictures I made during the first lockdown in France with Alexia. Those pictures were kind of a way of showing how this lockdown time has been hard for everybody through the feeling of being alone, kind of jailed with no human contacts (or almost). The drowning feeling felt very similar to the lockdown effect.

Once again, those 2 shots were made in 1 single exposure. 🎨🔦

⭕️ Steps trough these LP (studio) shots :

▪️First, I used a bucket that I filled with water and took something to throw in the bucket to create water drops 💦 (I don’t remember what I used but anything a little heavy will do). As I don’t have all the perfect equipment to make water drops shots, I placed my photo flash near the bucket to freeze the water drops. I also placed my first tripod near the bucket.

▪️Then, I placed my big soft box (with my 2nd photo flash) not far from the bucket, right behind Alexia with a seat so she could be still while I started the shot with the water drops.
I also placed the 2nd tripod in front of Alexia.

▪️So… Starting the shot by dropping a heavy object in the water & flash to freeze the water drops at the right time (this took several tries to flash at the exact time 😅).

▪️Once I thought I had flashed at the right time (because you never know if the shot is OK until it’s done), I covered my lens with a lens cap and put my camera on the 2nd tripod in front of Alexia :

• change the focus
• change the aperture (if necessary)
• Ask her if she’s ready
• uncovering the lens
• go behind the softbox to trigger the 2nd flash
• End of the picture

▪️The 2 pictures were made using the same technique ⬆️, the 2nd one didn’t exactly come out the way I intended because I splashed too much water and it spilled all over the lens so it wasn’t intentional but this is often a good way of creating pictures because you’ll always learn a lot by making mistakes.

▪️I like the 2nd picture because it’s a lot messier and can reveal different things but everybody has their own eye and understands things differently :
