This is the picture of the portal opening to the wonderful world of dahlia flowers. The petals are layered on top of each other, sliding open as if inviting you to travel inside. And I must tell you, resistance is futile. I leave you with several of my recent shots of a dahlia!
Dahlia flowers don’t whisper their allure; instead, they shout boldly, grabbing your attention with their audacious beauty. They demand to be seen, and once they catch your eye, it’s impossible to look away.
We have this flower at home, and I must admit that I never paid much attention before. I guess I was deaf to their shouts! But last summer, I was stunned by the beautiful, warm colors. The spectrum of hues—fiery reds, sun-kissed yellows, and soft pinks—radiated a kind of warmth that felt almost tangible. Since I started capturing flowers through photography, this one has become one of my favorites. The petals are so affluent that they seem to spill out of that magic portal, as if trying to bring in an enchanting essence from another world.
Each dahlia bloom feels like a tiny masterpiece, a celebration of nature’s creativity. What strikes me most is their intricate symmetry—each petal perfectly layered, forming a mesmerizing spiral that draws you deeper into its world.
But as with all things, this beauty is fleeting. Later on, it was saddening to see this fine existence fade away, dying leaf by leaf, one at a time. This process made me reflect on how we cope with getting older and watching loved ones fade away. Falling leaves seemed to mirror the slow deterioration of our skin—a transformation only the aging person truly notices in the quiet moments before a mirror. It’s a reminder of life’s impermanence, of the cycles that bind us to nature in ways we often overlook. So I placed this dahlia in front of a mirror and tried to capture both the past and the present on the flowers' body.
Still, there is beauty in the fading, too. Even as the petals wither, they curl into shapes that hold a quiet dignity, a testament to the life they once carried. Perhaps it’s a lesson in embracing change, in cherishing each moment before it passes.
All the best...
