This year, I slowed down doing collaborations with other vendors around my space. The reason was that I had become overwhelmed by my own activities that I couldn't cope with doing collaboration projects and delivering them. It's one thing to work on a project, it's another thing to deliver the photos from the project. And that was an issue I didn't like occurring, so I turned down a lot of collaboration requests, until two months ago.
My friend who is a makeup artist reached out and worked on a bridal collaboration with her. She pleaded because she knew I had stopped doing collaborations. But when she explained the way the shoot will go, she didn't have to say too much. I agreed to jump on the project. The reasons were;
- It wasn't the regular bridal collaboration where I had to do beauty photography and photograph only the model's face and maybe hair. That's what most of the bridal collaboration requests I received were about.
- The shoot was going to be done outdoors; in a green area. I always look forward to shooting in a green environment because I look forward to color-grading greens all the time.
- I hadn't done plenty of outdoor shoots this year aside from weddings.
Considering these factors I accepted to work on the collaboration project, and I'm glad I did.
On shoot day, I was feeling somewhat down mentally. I don't know why I felt that way, but I managed to squeeze out any creative juice that I had in me to do the shoot. Honestly, I wasn't impressed by what I had done, so I stalled on editing the photos from the shoot. I had to ask my brother/colleague to edit some photos so I could send them to the vendors that worked on the project.
Earlier this month, in my spare time, I decided to look through the photos again, and I was surprised that the photos actually came out nice, and my mind was playing games with me that day. I sorted the ones I would love to edit, and it took me less than an hour to get the perfect color-grading. It was that easy because, of course, green is my thing. I retouched a few of the photos and shared them on my Instagram and it blew up. Crazy stuff!
