The action of the novel takes place in Mauritius, in the French colony, hence the pictures show beautiful exotic landscapes. It is the story of two children, and later adults - Paul and Virginia, who grow up together on an island, close to nature, fall in love with each other, but in their adult life they are separated, because Virginia decides to go to France, where she is to inherit a lot of money.
Akcja noweli rozgrywa się na Mauritiusie, w kolonii Francuskiej, stąd na obrazkach można zobaczyć piękne egzotyczne krajobrazy. To historia dwójki dzieci, a później dorosłych - Pawła i Wirgini, którzy dorastają razem na wyspie, blisko natury, zakochują się w sobie, ale w życiu dorosłym zostają rozdzieleni, gdyż Wirginia postanawia wyjechać do Francji, gdzie ma odziedziczyć fortunę.
