Road to the Peak

That day started very early for me. It would officially be the last day of vacation, the last day in my homeland and the last day to have a special moment with my family, so we had to live a perfect and memorable ride... We didn't go that far from home, but we did get a little closer to the sky because of the height of the place we would be visiting... We were already half way when the sun appeared behind the mountains.

The road was clear, as was the sky. There was a lot of vegetation and it made the trip more pleasant. It was just my wife and her mom, and my mom and me. A mothers and sons ride, siblings were not invited 😬 and the further we got away from home, and the higher we climbed, the cooler the weather was in the area.

And the beginning of this road to the heights may only be half an hour from my house, but once you start climbing it can easily take you an hour or more. At the beginning there are only a few stops to eat or hydrate, you can even see some rivers, but then you can only see, hills, hills and more hills that are left to discover between the high mountains.

I don't know if the others enjoyed the ride as much as I did. Every time I got out of the car I took pictures, and when I got in and we started to drive I kept taking more pictures. I was simply amazed with everything my eyes saw, and even though this place is in the state where I was born, I had never visited it on this road, everything was new to me.

I have never known why, but my hometown, Maracay, is a very, very hot place. When I was a kid I was told it was because of its low altitude, much, much less than a thousand meters above sea level. I don't know if it's the real reason, sometimes I feel that the sun just hates us 😅 but the higher you go up in the mountains, the cooler everything gets, and this road was as cool as the place we were heading to that is hidden between mountains.

I love when I'm driving up a mountain and the clouds start to appear around us or below us. That combination between the sky and the earth, the horizon full of beautiful clouds resting on it is a pleasant experience for me, and the truth is that I can last for hours admiring it, you know that I love clouds and their shapes.

Despite the beauty of these hills and these high mountains, the vegetation is beaten by the sun, the landscapes are mainly earth-colored, a lot of dry green, brown, and a little reddish sand. However, this improved when we reached the summit, a very high point an hour's drive away, but which would be the beginning of a wonderful journey.

At a curve I realized that other vehicles were coming after us, at that moment I remembered that it was the last days of the Christmas vacations and that our little town at the top would probably be full of tourists. I don't like to travel in high season, many people make everything not so dreamy, but to spend a special day with our mothers it was all worth it. Already at the top appeared the first little house with German colonial architecture that was waiting for us a beautiful and different day, a little piece of Germany close to our home 🙏
