An Experimental Outing in Umhlanga CBD.

In a recent post, I mentioned my photography goal for 2025. As a part of this project, I will also try my hand at stock photography. This will be a long-term project though, as I know it will take time before seeing any results. Even if I see some results after a few months, however small, this will be at least a one-year project on its own before I can determine whether it is worth my while.

Slowly but surely, I am starting to explore this market.

I started researching the popular topics for the season and discovered on the platform I was researching that photos of people busy shopping, scenes in a city, etc, would be in demand.

This is not really my cup of tea, but I decided to at least "test the waters"...

So, two weeks ago, my daughter and I set out to capture photos in a city environment.

I didn't submit any of these photos yet, but I did submit images I took at some markets some time ago.

Looking at all the loops you have to jump through, I strongly doubt this topic will be viable for me. By the time I get permission from every person in the photo to actually capture the photo, half of those people would be gone and many others would be present. Then, there are the brand names, trademarks, and who knows what.

I would still "test the waters" of stock photography but prefer to stick to the theme of what I enjoy doing. Let's see how that will go...

But first, let's go back to my outing with my daughter...

We chose the Umhlanga CBD area. Umhlanga is part of the Greater Durban (Ethikwini) area, just north of Durban CBD, on the east coast of South Africa.

In all honesty, even though we were not out in nature, we still had fun though.

Let me share some of the shots of the day.

The first two images were "fun" shots promoting the Mini Dealership in Umhlanga against the wall of one of the buildings.

Let's frame a building, the Protea Hotel, Umhlanga...lol.

Here are some of the taller buildings in Umhlanga.

The blue building on the left is the ICC Conference Community Center. The white building, visible across the road is part of The Pearls, Umhlanga.

I'll end this post with four images of the BMW dealership in Umhlanga. I find the architecture interesting and we captured these photos from four angles.

BMW Umhlanga - SMG is located just outside the main CBD.
