Looking into the eye during a G3 Geomagnetic Storm at Ness Lake. The purple glow is created by oxygen atoms at an altitude of between 200–500 km (120-300miles) colliding in a high energy state and emitting red light at 630 nm. In contrast the more lower level green aurora are oxygen atoms at a lower altitude of 70-200km (40-120 miles) and lower energy state emitting light at 557.7 nm. Amazing! I bet you're missing those auroras.
Yep. The only green I see here is the green flash of the sunset.
That's just...wow.
Do you go with intent to take photos? As I think I would be standing there gawping for a bit before remembering I should probably try to get photos, and by then it might have gone away XD
I head out to take photos; but certainly a bit of gawping wow as well.
Majestic. What spectacular places have you visited!
Thanks. We lived on that lake for 3 years ;-)
