I know we have people here who like to see historical abandoned places or what's left of them. This post is for you. On my trip to eastern Estonia, I gave a visit to Laiuse Fortress. Most of the fortress is gone today but some walls are still standing.
It was built around the 1400s and has been under several ownerships. At some point, this place was bombed and now looks like that.
There is also a warning sign about stones that may fall. I would not want to get hit by one, nevertheless, I still went near the walls and even climbed one, to get a better view. I'm a daredevil as usual.
Actually I have been there before, about 2 years ago when I was on a bicycle trip with some friends. I didn't carry camera equipment so now was the first time I was able to capture this fortress.
I think this place is incredibly photogenic.
I would love to see a pictures of how this place once looked but I failed to find any photo records of that time.
This is where I climbed an inside wall a bit to get a higher view.
Anyway, definitely worth a visit if you ever plan on traveling Estonia or if you already live here.
It looks so different from all the other ruins you spot around Estonia. Just don't try to climb the walls as I did, be wise!
Sometimes it is good to be wise, sometimes it is better to be daring and get what we are looking for, a beautiful view, a perfect picture, a story to tell. I'm glad you weren't wise that day. 😁
Haha, thanks! I hope I'm not getting myself killed one day over dare deviling 😃
