Ávila

Ávila is the most elevated municipality in Spain (1,132 m) and I definitely felt like in mountains once I left the bus that took us there. You may have heard about the city for at least two reasons – it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Saint Teresa of Jesus was born and spent most of her life there. I stopped by just for several hours as it is rather small.

Ávila je nejvýše položené krajské město ve Španělsku (1 132 m n.m.). A že jste v horách je znát, sám jsem to pocítil hned jak jsme vylezli z autobusu. O Ávile jste možná slyšeli ze dvou důvodů - je na seznamu světového dědictví UNESCO a narodila se tu Terezie od Ježíše. My v Ávile strávili jen pár hodin, i přes nějakých 60 tisíc obyvatel je to docela malé městečko.**

The most breath-taking landmark is arguably the city walls that were built in 12th century. The fortifications still surround the old city with a perimeter of about 2.5 kilometres.

Nejvíce dechberoucí památkou jsou ovšem městské hradby z 12. století. Hradby stále obklopují staré město a po obvodu měří asi 2,5 kilometrů.
