It's been quite a while since I posted here. Aside from being busy with a few events, I've also been working on building a portfolio with friends from my photography community in the city. I've also found it a bit challenging to write captions for my posts; sometimes, it just feels boring.
Before I share photos from the session where I worked on my portfolio with my friends, let me share how the portfolio started. You could say that this photo is the opening image of the portfolio. I did this session with a model named Keny. At first, I was hesitant to ask her to do the session because Keny is a makeup artist's model, and I doubted whether she would agree to work with an unknown photographer like me.
However, all those thoughts disappeared when Keny accepted my invitation. During this introductory session, I was very excited because Keny had a great attitude and was very friendly, which made me feel comfortable directing the poses. Feeling comfortable plays a big role in creating a good photoshoot session.
In this first meeting, I usually observe how the model's mood is during the photoshoot, how she poses, and identify her best angles. Once I have a good understanding of these aspects, I then decide whether to proceed with the next session with more thorough preparation, including selecting outfits, makeup, hair styling, and props to support the photoshoot.
However, the opposite also applies. If the model seems to be in a less-than-good mood or remains shy by the end of the session, I usually decide not to continue with a more advanced shoot. Of course, I do my best to break the ice and help her feel comfortable in front of the camera, but if I've made every effort and she still feels shy, it becomes difficult to move on to the next session.
And of course, my session with Keny went very smoothly. In fact, during the photoshoot, I didn’t need to direct her poses at all; she posed naturally and knew which angles worked best for her. Her mood was also excellent; even though the session was long, she was able to smile throughout and maintain her positive attitude until the end.
This is the first session from my meeting with Keny. In the next post, I’ll share more photos from our session, but with a more refined concept. I’ve divided it into two different themes, so I’ll be sharing it in two separate posts. I hope you enjoy them.
Warm regards.
