Saludos hivers y bienvenidos a mi blog. Antes de que el plástico se apoderara de casi todos los objetos de uso diario, la materia prima más común para hacer cosas como los implementos de cocina o los juguetes, era la madera, el metal o la arcilla. El plástico no sólo agilizó el proceso de fabricación de los mismos, sino que también hizo que muchos de ellos se volvieran desechables, y no precisamente porque el plástico no dure mucho, todo lo contrario, sino que al tener un proceso de elaboración más rápido y un costo menor, la producción se masificó y por ende, el plástico fue sustituyendo al resto de los materiales.

Hello hivers and welcome to my blog. Before plastic took over almost all everyday objects, the most common raw material for making things like kitchen implements or toys was wood, metal or clay. Plastic not only speeded up the manufacturing process, but also made many of them disposable, and not precisely because plastic doesn't last long, quite the contrary, but by having a faster and more efficient manufacturing process, a lower cost, production became widespread and therefore, plastic was replacing the rest of the materials.

Entre esos objetos, estaban los juguetes. Los juguetes representan una parte esencial de la infancia, todos hemos tenido aunque sea un juguete. Antiguamente los juguetes se hacían con madera, metal, tela e incluso con arcilla, porcelana y yeso, y su elaboración era de cierta manera artesanal, y hasta especial, por el tiempo que había que dedicar para hacerlos, sin embargo, con la producción en masa, el plástico y todo eso, el proceso se automatizó y esa magia de crear cada juguete manualmente, se fue perdiendo, sin embargo, aún hay jugueteros que mantienen vivo este arte.

Among those objects were toys. Toys represent an essential part of childhood, we have all had at least one toy. In the past, toys were made with wood, metal, fabric and even clay, porcelain and plaster and their production was in a certain artisanal way, and even special, because of the time that had to be dedicated to making them, however, with mass production, the plastic and all that, the process was automated and that magic of creating each toy manually was lost, however, there are still toy makers who keep this art alive.

El año pasado fui a una exposición de juguetes artesanales que se hizo en mi
ciudad, se me había olvidado que tenía estas fotos en mi teléfono y mientras buscaba en mis carpetas para ver qué podía publicar, las ví y recordé que no había hecho este post jajaja 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️.

Last year I went to an exhibition of handmade toys that was held in my city, I had forgotten that I had these photos on my phone and while I was looking through my folders to see what I could post, I saw them and remembered that I had not made this post hahaha 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️.

En esta exposición de juguetes participaron cinco artesanos, cuatro trabajan con madera (MDF, pino, compuesto, etc) y el otro, hace juguetes con material de reciclaje. A excepción de uno, que es un muchacho jóven que está empezando y aprendiendo este oficio, el resto tiene una larga trayectoria haciendo juguetes. La exposición se hizo en una de las salas de la Fundación Casa Mariño, sede de la fundación de cultura de la La Victoria y estuvo abierta al público durante un mes.

Five artisans participated in this toy exhibition, four work with wood (MDF, pine, composite, etc.) and the other makes toys with recycling material. Except for one, who is a young boy who is starting and learning this trade, the rest have a long history of making toys. The exhibition was held in one of the rooms of the Casa Mariño Foundation, headquarters of the La Victoria cultural foundation, and was open to the public for a month.

El señor Juan es uno de los artesanos más conocidos de la ciudad, ha participado en muchas ferias alrededor del país y su especialidad son los juegos "rompecocos" como les decimos aquí jejeje, son como una especie de acertijos que hay que resolver moviendo piezas, son muy divertidos para pasar el tiempo, poner a funcionar la mente y distraerse un rato.

Mr. Juan is one of the best-known artisans in the city, he has participated in many fairs around the country and his specialty are the "rompecocos" ("mind-breaker") games as we call them here hehehe, they are like a kind of riddles that must be solved by moving pieces, they are very fun to pass the time, get your mind working and distract yourself for a while.

Los juguetes del señor Juan son muy coloridos y tienen bonitos diseños, aparte de los "rompecocos", también hace juegos de mesa, carritos, camiones, juegos tradicionales como perinolas, gurrufíos y trompos, y muchas cosas más. El material que más utiliza es la madera en diferentes formatos.

Mr. Juan's toys are very colorful and have beautiful designs. Apart from the "rompecocos" ("mind-breakers"), he also makes board games, cars, trucks, traditional games such as whirligigs, gurrufíos and spinning tops, and many more things. The material he most uses is wood in different formats.

El acróbata, para que esté patito empiece a hacer volteretas como si estuviese sobre las barras paralelas, se aprietan los dos palos por la parte de abajo con la mano y ahí ocurre la magia jejeje 🤸🏻‍♀️ / The acrobat, so that this duckling starts doing somersaults as if he were on the parallel bars, you squeeze the two sticks at the bottom with your hand and that's where the magic happens hehehe 🤸🏻‍♀️

El señor Julio Pérez hace principalmente juguetes tradicionales venezolanos, con la particularidad que todos están hechos con material de reciclaje como botellas plásticas, tapas de diferentes tipos de envases y productos, marcadores viejos, etc. Es increíble cómo utiliza su creatividad para transformar estos materiales en juguetes como trompos, carritos, gurrufíos y muchos más.

Mr. Julio Pérez mainly makes traditional Venezuelan toys, with the particularity that they are all made with recycling material such as plastic bottles, lids from different types of containers and products, old markers, etc. It's incredible how he uses his creativity to transform these materials into toys such as tops, cars, gurrufíos and many more.

El siguiente expositor es un joven que está aprendiendo a elaborar juegos de mesa con madera, no pude conversar con él porque el día que fui había salido, en su stand pude ver tableros de ajedrez, damas, dados, algunos cubos rompecabezas, cubos de letras y colores para la enseñanza de los más pequeños, también tenía sillas, mesas y hasta un camión para las muñecas o para que los niños jueguen solos, todos hechos de madera.

The next exhibitor is a young man who is learning to make board games with wood. I couldn't talk to him because he was out the day I went. At his stand I could see chess boards, checkers, dice, some puzzle cubes, and letter and colors cubes for teaching the kids, he also had chairs, tables and even a truck for the dolls or for the children to play alone, all made of wood.

Aparte de juegos de mesa, en este stand también ofrecían calendarios manuales hechos de madera con tacos para identificar la fecha, el día y el mes, puedes usarlos por siempre ya que sólo vas rotando los cubos 😉 / Apart from board games, at this stand they also offered manual calendars made of wood with blocks to identify the date, day and month, you can use them forever since you only have to rotate the cubes 😉

El último expositor en la pequeña sala, era el señor Pedro Antonio Sánchez, pude conversar un largo rato con él. Es colombiano pero tiene muchos años viviendo en Venezuela, volvio a su país durante los años en que la crisis estuvo fuerte aquí pero regresó cuando las cosas empezaron a mejorar. Trabaja en un banco pero me dijo que hacer juguetes es lo que más le gusta hacer, empezó a hacerlo cuando era apenas un niño y le gustaba quedarse durante horas en el taller de carpintería de su tío observando cómo este trabajaba con la madera.

The last artisan in the small room was Mr. Pedro Antonio Sánchez, I was able to have a long talk with him. He is Colombian but has lived in Venezuela for many years. He returned to his country during the years when the crisis was hard here but he returned when things began to improve. He works in a bank but he told me that making toys is what he likes to do most. He started doing it when he was just a child and he liked to stay for hours in his uncle's carpentry workshop observing how he worked with wood.

Este objeto me llamó mucho la atención, es un cajón acústico o corneta para el teléfono, pones tu teléfono parado en la ranura que está arriba, seleccionas la música que vas a escuchar y listo, el sonido se amplifica a través de la parte de abajo, tienes tu corneta sin cables, Bluetooth ni electricidad 💡😃, genial 😉 / This object caught my attention, it's an acoustic box or cornet for the telephone, you put your phone standing in the slot at the top, you select the music you are going to listen to and that's it, the sound is amplified through the bottom part, you have your cornet without cables, Bluetooth or electricity 💡😃, great 😉

El sr Antonio me dijo que ese helicóptero lo hizo hace 40 años, cuando aún era un adolescente, dejó en claro que no está en venta jajaja / Mr. Antonio told me that he made that helicopter 40 years ago, when he was still a teenager, he made it clear that it's not for sale hahaha

Esta exposición me pareció muy interesante, me encantó ver la variedad de juguetes hechos con mucho amor y me alegró ver que hay personas que siguen conservando y enseñando este arte y sobretodo, que sus creaciones son muy bien recibidas por el público. Sin duda que cualquiera de estas piezas y juguetes son un excelente regalo para gente de todas las edades 😊.

I found this exhibition very interesting, I loved seeing the variety of toys made with a lot of love and I was happy to see that there are people who continue to preserve and teach this art and, above all, that their creations are very well received by the public. Without a doubt, any of these pieces and toys are an excellent gift for people of all ages 😊.
