I think it's fair to say this pink thingy didn't get the memo about trimming, waxing and shaving; it's let things get a little out of control...but seems not to care...talk about letting it all hang out huh? Although, at least this Zygocactus owns it I guess, and to be honest it makes the look, look good. Ok, maybe that's too far of a stretch.
I've been watching the flowers emerge on the Zygocactus for a little while now and really wish I had the ability to do one of those time-lapse videos as I think it'd look super cool.
It's pretty weird how the blooms come out of the very tips of the plants leaves which look somewhat like segments of crab's arms, and those hairs are weird too. Instead of a time lapse I grabbed a few shots with my camera and down the track will take a few more as the flowers begin to open; they really are quite an interesting looking flower when in full bloom. I don't find the plant attractive when not flowering, it's too cactussy for me...but I keep it around as it looks so great in bloom. Cactussy is a word now.
The next few shots are of one of my early bloomers, sweet peas, which seem to have been impatient to emerge. The sweet pea is a rather unstructured plant, both the foliage and the flowers, but they have beautiful colours as you can see.
These are a collection of blooms I've brought inside and there's not many of them, just a few early ones hence the tight shots. I took these in my kitchen where they sit on the bench in a vase and none of you need to see images of my kitchen, it's not that exciting. I love the delicate nature of these flowers, how the veins come through in the petals and, of course, the colours are quite nice too.
That's it today, a few snaps of some of the colours in my garden at the moment. I'm looking forward to all my sweet peas to come into bloom, they look so nice and the fragrance is lovely too. It's always a good moment to open the windows and allow the spring breezes to carry the scent inside. As for the Zygocactus, it'll be in full bloom soon too and I'll grab some more photos of it and share them eventually.

You reminded me of a huge old cactus in the garden of my childhood home. Blooms only at night once a year. Those flowering days were like a party. On Facebook I found this photo, this is what it looked like on those glorious scented nights 👇
I'm not much into cacti, however when thy bloom they're usually quite spectacular, as your image shows; one just needs to put up with a pretty uninteresting plant for most of the time and celebrate the blooms when they happen!
It would be something like having a hard job and waiting a year for a splendid vacation. I don't really like cacti either, if I'm honest. But the truth is that those blooms were so spectacular that it was worth preserving that mass full of thorns.
When one finds a beautiful flower amongst thorns one must celebrate it, love it...much like when one finds a beautiful human amongst the trash humanity generally is.

I think I laughed a little with the title of your post, it reminded me of something they say in these parts of the world with a double meaning,

My sister has in her house an orchidarium, but she also has a great variety of other plants, that I am sure make her very happy, one of them is a variety of Cactus, I will call yes for generalizing, I have more than four years that I do not visit her, but I do remember that she has a type of cactus like that, but the flower is white.
That was the plan, I like to have some fun and that's my idea of fun.

I don't really like cactus's but this one I tolerate...I wonder what one she has that's white?
I was very curious to know the name, so I phoned my sister, she told me that here in Venezuela it has two colloquial names. One is Cactus Orchid, I know why she likes that cactus, hahaha she is an orchid lover, the last time I visited her as I mentioned was more than 4 years ago, in my computer I have a photographic record of more than 100 photos of orchid flowers.
The other name she is known by is "Lady of the night" or Queen of the night, it is because she blooms only at night.
Oh that's cool, I'll check it out and see if it's available.

Pink is my favourite colour and I have never seen flowers like this, I had similar ones in Argentina but they were not the same.
I love them, very much! Here we are going into autumn, the heat wave has killed many plants and in my case.... the rosemary, I want another one so I will go for it but I like it to be natural, in the bush I can take a pruning and plant it as I did with the one that was gone.
Right now, I'm in a situation... not happy. But when it happens, I will take care of my garden. It will do me good.

Wow. I must consider you a lucky person who has such beautiful flowers in his garden and also a large variety of flowers.
Those pictures are really beautiful. I wrote about my garden recently. When I was looking at it(it is a small garden) the rose plant was having only two roses on it and all other were vanished. I don't know where did they go.
And sadly, no pinky thing in my garden.
I'm pretty lucky to have my life, it's a good one, although I've had to work for it, none came easy.

Ooooooo I do love Zygocactus (I also know as Christmas Cactus) although I think yours is hairier than some. Mine has a smoother appearance. LOL Just wait until the petals open!!!!Just wait til those petals open!!!!
You got some great shots of that stunning pinkness! And sweetpeas are one of my all time favourites - I grow, pick and have bunches of them in vases all over the house. The scent is just AMAZING.

Those are really nice looking flowers. I like the different shades of pink, red, and violet. The cactus flower is something I haven't seen before. Weirdly, it makes me imagine a paw with long claws that are painted. Kind of like painted nails haha.
It's a pretty unique looking plant for sure, the blooms are magnificent too, such an amazing shade of pink. You'll see when I do another post once they come out.

Ok, this is the kind of post that makes me wonder why I didn't buy a good camera... Wow brother, what a quality and beauty of your photographs, I have never been able to capture such small details like this, there is so much we miss seeing everything from afar, there is magic when we get close to the most sublime details, especially in the flowers. It's pretty close up huh? My camera wasn't overly expensive, I didn't want to spend a huge amount considering my poor skills, but it does a good job. I'm glad you like the shots...would you say you love nature, I do, but I wonder how you relate and interact with it?
These flowers are beautiful. Nature gives you surprises, the same as the hairs on these flowers do. It's really hard to create timelapse video of the process but you must try some time ;)
I don't have the equipment to do timelapse but if I did I'd certainly give it a shot.

Wow, you took those in your kitchen? The light must be pretty amazing in there. I can't seem to get any thing to grow in our house. It always dies no matter what it is. Outside I can do okay, but inside, nope. I remember I got a plant one time and someone said there was zero chance I would kill it. Well guess what. I somehow found a way.

Yeah, I wish it wasn't. I had some lucky bamboo that I was able to keep alive for several years, but eventually it rotted out and turned yellow and died. I really tried though!
