monsters crawling across
my skin I feel the words
tingle with every movement
the fingers stretch around my arm
to slow down everything

It seems that my movement series has become stagnant, the opposite of movement. The last movement post was about 7 months ago, and the one before that was about a year ago. The movement series really challenged me intellectually and photographically. I enjoyed making them, going into the fynbos bush and into vineyards, thinking through and with the movement that the dead timbre allows for.

After the seven month hiatus, I found myself again in the fynbos bushes, sunset allowing me the most beautiful lighting, and thinking about the movement of my words and the wood, the broken pieces of timbre that has washed up.

The free flowing movement of the various driftwood, broken and bent, the unobstructed desire flowing into and over the rocks, the world becomes nothing but empty gestures.

I find myself picking up these random pieces of wood, thinking about my being flowing like electricity to the ends of these sticks and stumps, flowing into the cracks and fractures leaving nothing but movement - movement as the constant resistance of decaying.

So, join me on this photographing journey, as I breathe new life into this old monster that denies its own mortality.

Postscriptum, Or so the movement continues

Movement is the only thing that keeps us from decaying. The lifeless and resting body accumulates maggots and insects that will keep on feasting on the body. But when the body moves, when the hand hits the fly that attempts to lay its eggs in the festering wound, the body will survive.

This series seems like a body that wants to die, decay, but it keeps on swatting the flies away, signalling life in the body.

I hope that these photographs indicated the movement that I felt while taking them.

For now, happy photographing, and keep well.

All of the photographs I used in this post are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and my 50mm Nikkor lens. The musings are also my own, albeit inspired by the movement hidden in the drift wood and pieces of timber.
